  1. Thanks all. I'm not going to repeat this task so I will probably use some foil combined with gaffer tape Aidan
  2. Sorry Just wanted to clarify ix it best to remove the gearstick mechanism or just the gearstick when taking engine and box out?? TIA
  3. Hi Pete, There was definitely a post on here somewhere - probably two or three years ago and I just cannot find it. The member had polished the exterior so it almost looked like chrome! I did have a conversation with them but now am unable to find it. i'm hoping whoever did the post will come back to this! I Aidan do have some chrome paint, but I'm not so sure how long that would last with the heat of the block - its not high temp paint Aidan
  4. Hi all, Some time ago (years) i saw a post from someone that had been able to polish up the Inlet manifold which looked really good. As my manifold is now off the car I would like to do the same. I'd like to ask some general questions on how it was so well done. Grateful if that contributor or anyone who has achieved this, could let me know how please? Thx Aidan
  5. All now removed, that stud remover you recommended about 4 years ago now Pete came into its own once again. Great to have the right bit of kit!! Anyway now realise I have the mk1 unf studs and not the unc ones fitted to the mk2 manifold grrrrr.. can any one advise if these are interchangeable or should I buy unc? And if the latter, does anyone need three unf ones with the brass nuts???? Aidan
  6. Thanks Pete, Now separated and manifold out, studs look like they will be a buggar to get out. I have a stud remover so will try that first, if not I think it will be a cut off flat and drill out - what fun!!
  7. Advice please on best way to remove the 3 nuts from the studs between the manifold and exhaust TIA
  8. Thanks Doug. WSM says to put into first gear first so I guess I need to do that. BTW, is GAC5053A the right clutch alignment tool? Thx
  9. Thanks all Think it's going to be both then, I will support the exhaust and tie the prop so I can roll everything back inside once out Does the gear selector just unbolt, do I needed to ensure anything to ease it's replacement??
  10. Fully aware of this Pete, just the block on its own is more that I could lift!!!
  11. Hi Pete Borrowed a 2T crane, bonnet already off along with radiator water pump etc, - will be stripping off all the ancillaries first. I have a load leveler, although not as posh as John's. I think it will do the job. Now 50 50 as to which way to go Aidan
  12. Which would you do Pete, given the choice? I have an overdrive and could make room if i stuck the back end of the car outside the forage door Aidan
  13. If I can work out a way to take the box out to, is it just a case of unbolting the prop and the box support bracket (+ speedo cable clutch save. .....) ??? Is it really easier?? Aidan
  14. Sorry, no room to do that - engine only! Aidan
  15. Hi all, About to finally remove and swap over engines in my mk1. Hopefully a simple question, do I need to support the gearbox and exhaust system with wooden blocks? Or are the standard supports sufficient? Thx Aidan
  16. Hi Can anyone advise on the best place / position for halogen light relays in a GT6 please? Thanks
  17. Hi all Some advice please from all. I need to lift off and store my gt6 bonnet in a restricted space. It will have to sit above the car tied to the roof struts. Or placed on the car roof somehow. Any advice on Lifting it up and strapping above the car?? TIA
  18. Thx Pete The issue will now be the time it takes to swap the engine over. All the ancillaries will need attention, cleaning etc plus I want to rattle can the fire wall half of which was coated in black underseal by the PO. A general clean up of the engine bay will also be needed. Lots of weekends in those items Aidan
  19. I just wanted to get the oil all the way around the engine before the final bits go in. Thought I saw on here some way of circulating the oil around the engine
  20. All cleaned up, painted and fitted without any problems Thx
  21. Hi all Anyone have a picture of what you used to spin up the oil pump? Thx
  22. So interestingly this is what I received from Canleys. Seems the right size pls there's an opening for the pump. Any reason why I shouldn't use as is ( once cleaned - Thanks for that Canleys!!)
  23. Hi again Anyone have a picture of where the rear engine plate bolts go please. WSM only states to fit it and nothing else!! TIA BTW - seem to have lost the bolts 🔩 😖
