  1. When fitting the alternator on my gt6 I have found it fouls the new engine valance panels bought from the club shop. 😩😩Shortening the fan belt is not an option as the alternator is prevented from recoiling very far thanks to the cast mounting bracket being in the way. The GT6 bracket is quite long and lowers the alternator -I have no idea why. But I see the TR6 mounting bracket appears to be quite a bit different and may sort out my problem. Any ideas why and any reason I shouldn’t use the tr6 bracket instead? couple of links showing the difference below: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-TR6-Spitfire-light-weight-alternator-bracket/254672161711?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D56f7cca2d37e49b2ab642fc6d3e29ec5%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D254672161711%26itm%3D254672161711%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DTriumph&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ab65c3ea7-2218-11eb-8b8b-820f3ba11088%7Cparentrq%3Aaa2764e51750ad331bbb238bffe61298%7Ciid%3A1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-GT6-light-weight-alternator-bracket/254678919493?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D56f7cca2d37e49b2ab642fc6d3e29ec5%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D254672161711%26itm%3D254678919493%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DTriumph&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ab65c3ea7-2218-11eb-8b8b-820f3ba11088%7Cparentrq%3Aaa2764e51750ad331bbb238bffe61298%7Ciid%3A1 Any advice much appreciated. Rich
  2. Cool I'll have it thanks Roger. Also gives me a spare control unit just in case. 👍
  3. Ah ha, that could well be my best option thank you. Can you message me a price please? Is it likely to be the same sensor unit though (4cylinder vs 6)? One of the reasons I cut the wire was to avoid disrupting the set up in the dizzy do you have the instructions for that?! (not on the site Scrapman kindly forwarded or the manufacturers site as far as I can see). Many thanks Rich
  4. Perfect thank you. 😉😉 Stand down Roger I think I have what I need. Thank you both. To tell you the truth, when dismantling the ignition system in a hurry, I didn't want to disrupt the dizzy so I cut the red cable between the dizzy and the control unit, planning to rejoin it. Only then did I realise it had 6 wires inside. Planning to solder them all up but if anybody has the main red cable (which I think is joined to the optical unit) and is happy to part with it, do please let me know! (they are very small wires!). Or perhaps, can anybody recommend a small waterproof connector for 6 very small wires... All assistance much appreciated. Rich
  5. Does anybody have any experience of fitting a Newtronic Electronic ignition from the 1980's please? I'm refitting it to my car after a lot of years and I can't remember how it was wired. A wiring diagram or instructions would be ideal please? There's no model number written anywhere on it. Any advice much appreciated! Rich
  6. 😆 Its Phoenix Wing Mirrors. 07882 278629. Luke is very helpful - they specialise in replacing the actual mirror glass itself. I really need the whole head as the 'ball joint' on mine is damaged - but as the mirror glass is also ropey, I may just get him to cut a replacement one (less than a tenner)to stick oer the top, whilst I look out for a replacement head. Thanks for the tip Martyn.
  7. Hi Colin - thanks for all your research! Yes, I saw those - but you may have missed my comment. I actually bought one a week ahead of the £172 auction for £29. Has a mint body but a different head. However I can use the head off my old mirror which is not too bad. I'm looking out for a new head, but I don't want to pay more than £20 for it 😉 Cheap ass! I did get a rechroming quote for mine @ £100 but it would have to be filled.. The black ones may be around £50 to chrome I'd guess as they are probably good. Interesting that they made it onto a skoda. Tsk tsk.... 😆😆 Again, thanks for looking, much appreciated. Rich
  8. Good to know thanks Martyn. I managed to get a mint NOS plinth and arm, exact match off ebay - but I still could do with a replacement mirror itself. I'll give him a try thank you.
  9. Something odd went on. She's now told me that the second highest bidder didn't reply to her message. She did say that the winning bidder (£172 ) in the same breath as his apology, did offer her £55 to take it off her hands! What amazed me as well was all 5 of the last bids were in the last 9 seconds!
  10. The ebay seller of the mirror updated me. The buyer (at £172) contacted her apologising that they had accidentally put the decimal place in the wrong place.... 🤣🤣 However, the next highest bidder was £155 anyway. For some reason she's relisted it rather than accepted the next best offer.
  11. Talking of expensive items, who bought this???? I was interested when it was £10 but then I realied that the early spit's / GT6 didn't have a number plate plinth! (well as far as I could see anyway). Presume 14 people believe it is a rare part!
  12. Well I realised it was actually a Raydyot mirror. So looked again on ebay and there to my surprise was the same unit in great condition! The owner had put it on for £16 so I 'contacted seller' and offered £35 - but they wouldn't accept saying Ebay would not stop the auction from running (never heard of that but hey). Dissapointingly, there was already a bidder so I knew I had competition - but the bid sat at £17 right up the the ast 30 seconds when I added my bid (£32) and the price went to £21 "you are the highest bidder"- great I thought, I was prepared to pay £32 but I actually have to pay £21 - unlucky seller!!!! THEN within the last 5 seconds, 5 more bids...... The mirror sold for £172!!!!!!!!!!! FORTUNATELY, for me, I was the only one that noticed a Raydyot 'towing mirror' for sale a week earlier with exactly the same plinth / arm NOS and I had bought that a week earlier for £29. I only wanted this second one for the actual mirror itself as the towing mirror head is different - but can get away with using my old mirror head. £172 - great for the seller - somebody must have really wanted this!
  13. The plastic cap is asking to be filled with foam as it is raised from the door plate. I tried it off the car and 1/2" soft foam makes it look 'full' closer to the original GT6. But I havn't tried it on a door - so if it doesn't fit anyway, perhaps some foam straight on to the door, covered in vinyl is the answer. I'll experiment and see what looks best. 😉
  14. Thanks. They are not great but they do provide some shape. So I will probably pad them inside with soft foam, possibly cover them. I'm assuming the more expensive Rimmers caps are exactly the same.
  15. I guess that he provides a strip of leather instead of Vinyl! I talked to him earlier and he doesn't use any kind of moulding. Nice guy, had a good chat!
  16. Thanks for teh tip. Apparently his kits are a strip of vinyl and the glue :-(. The Vinyl is stuck to the actual door - which on the pic looks pretty good! Personally I'm more likely to use the cheap plastic ones but add foam underneath to pad it out.
  17. The only available door caps for a GT6 these days are (I think) Spitfire caps that have no padding. My plan is to add foam. But I noticed that Rimmers sell the caps for around £8 more each than Paddocks. I presume thats because they are a rip off, not because they are better quality. Anyone here know? I have cheaper Paddocks ones and like many parts are not worth the £18 each. Wooden ones are an option for a different time. Many thanks Rich
  18. I landed up buying these. Supposedly Linread NOS. Obviously not Triumph original! £25 for the pair. 😞😭😭 (ebay 'p.p.golf' if anybody is ever desperate!). At least they are new.
  19. Thanks Gav, Colin. I'm investigating all options! Yes, been on the tex site thanks. All too short 😞 I didn't realise that my original is actually quite an expensive design (I guess) having two joints. It's a shame not to have it rechromed but from previous experience it would be at least £100 and would take a couple of months. Welding up one of the holes may be the best option as I can do that quickly and cheaply. Argggh...
  20. Thanks Pete. I did look at that previously - but again, slightly too short to hide both holes.
  21. Long shot but I'm wondering if by any chance anyone has this particular make/model door mirror sitting around looking for a good home?? Unfortunately I realised after the door was sprayed (complete with fixing holes) that this particular mirror has a very long plinth with holes beyond the width of all (that I can find) similar bases available today. I think it's a tex (magnatex) product. The Plinth is 121mm long and the hole centres about 103mm. Of course the exact model is not available anymore and the metal on mine is shot. It must have been an aftermarket fitting and there is no model number on it. Next option is to fill at least one of the holes and respray 😞 Than you Rich
  22. Thanks for the advice all. I will follow up all routes and let you know. 😉 Rich
  23. Anyone know where I can obtain 2 of these please? Also suitable for Spit Mk1 - 3 I assume, also same switch for boot I believe Many thanks Rich
