Is that why it took 30 seconds for the OD to kick in?

It’s the remains of a bush. Maybe a past bodge?

what about the bush and input shaft waggle?
The brass bush was great. Input shaft is like this.
Pete is going to look at the box and sprinkle fairy dust over it.

Ok.
New clutch ordered and new rear mounting.
Everything else looks ok.
Off to Luton we go!
Might even give it a bit of a wipe

Bit of threadlock as well?
Ok. I have some somewhere

Speaking of oil.
What's the recommended Gbox oil?

Looks OK to me - even if it was wiped before the photo.
When retightening the flywheel, make sure the bolts are done up f**kin tight, you really don't want them working loose at a later date.
Understood!

I think it looks pretty good. The back of the flywheel was dry

Im sorry I forgot about the backplate which of course would have to be removed to get to the rear seal housing. Yours is a lip seal but does look dry as if leaking I would expect to see oil on the housing (those two small holes in it are used to push the seal out from the other side of the housing once its removed). Maybe its not worth continuing as you have enough on your plate as it is....
I did give it a wipe before taking the picture.

If its a lip seal its worth putting a new one on now as although the flywheel has to come off its not a difficult job...
I'll take the flywheel off now

oh and I hate to add jobs to the list but is your rear crank seal a scroll or rubber lip seal type?
I don't know. there's quite a bit of oil in there.

yes thats still on the calendar ....when ????
Pete
I don't know.
The government have not mentioned Gearboxes once during this whole crisis.
Such an omission!
I suppose it's up to you really. When you are happy to have a visitor i'll pop up.

if its a mike papworth 4 sync box its going to be far better than many out there .all the gears and synchros are usable
all the internals are exactly the same as any 4syn 3 rail box but does need the main shaft swapping for your OD one , easy enough.
there may be a MP 18mm mainshaft spigot upgrade ??? no idea , doesnt say , that would be good but no use in your orig OD box .
Pete
Looks like sticking with a trip to sunny luton is still on then.
It would have been a shame to miss out on that anyway.

Except you had already looked in the box and still weren’t sure! 😳

I was going to say Schrödinger’s poosum. But that's playing dead not alive?

Yes gearbox repair is really satisfying, well it is if it works afterwards🤔
I was immensely proud of my remote repair until I found out it hadn’t fixed the thing!
I’m sure there’s something Schrödinger’s cat about that.
( And yes I had to google that) -

It could be used with your overdrive but it's a major job. Also bit pricey for a non 2L box with no guarantees....
Yeah. I’ll stick to plan A of getting my box up to Pete.
It’ll be fun anyway! And I get to keep the original box, which is nice.

I’ve just found out it’s Non Overdrive.
That’s a shame.

There’s this that I’ve just seen on Facebook would this be a good idea instead of repairing mine?
