Surely, Paula, a DAB should automatically tune to the best reception for your chosen station?    Maybe another word with those nice people at Classic Car Stereo?

    Anyway,

    Bangin' chunes to you!

    John

    I only wanted Radio 6!
I kept on re tuning but no difference. I've been fiddling today and i connected the adapter straight to the battery to make sure it was getting a good ground and it completely cuts the sign out to the point where it just displays 'No DAB Available'
Bit weird and i can't see how that can "Sometimes happen" and surely if it's not powered it's not as good?
I'll fit the new aerial so it's all a perfect system and ring them again if i don't get a good enough reception.

I can't imaging there isn't a load of transmitters covering  the south east these days.
    Looks good though.

  2. In other news. I've had to replace my clarion stereo after only 2 years as it stopped making noise.

I decided to spend a bit of extra cash and get a Classic Car Stereo Vintage 100 DAB replacement. I also ordered the DAB Adapter module so i could use my existing aerial.

It all went in easy enough, and was receiving DAB before i even plugged the aerial in. When i wired the adapter up (one red live wire and one black ground) It cut the sound off. I rang Classic car Stereo and got to speak to someone straight away, which was nice. He said he'd heard of this issue and i needed to just disconnect the red power wire. I did this and it started to work again.
I went for a drive and the reception isn't very good at all. It cuts out completely when i start to leave London and only re appeared once i was well within Brighton.
I've ordered a new aerial as my old one is a bit stiff and the signal wire has been cut and twisted together by the PO. Hopefully that will improve things.
Anyone else have experience of these or similar units?

If you get a chance to pop a photo up might help with some clues , I would go with BP6ES  ,  but sooty  or oily or both can be a combination of poor spark , too  rich, , and oil consumption  do not use any plugs with an R in the suffix   NO BPR6ES  etc.  Or N9YR   !!!!

    Does fergal us  any oil???

Is the exhaust  a bit smelly of fuel

Air filters are dry and not oilled up ??

You have a meter    check the   coil  ohms across the   lucar.?  terminals youre looking for around 3 ohms  as gou dont have a ballast feed on a vitesse.

    Pete

    Ok.

    will do

    Hello Paula,

I run BP6ES in my Vitesse and Daimler with electronic ignition - no issues.

Additionally, it is worth opening the electrode gap a tad further to .030 rather than .025 if running with electronic ignition.

Out of interest, what coil are you using ?? An Accuspark red top OR a genuine Lucas Sports Coil ?? I know Clive gives a thumbs up for Bosch coils but I have no experience of these. Coil delivery is an important factor with such ignition set-ups.

Best wishes and hope that assists.

    Richard.

No idea about the coil. It's black?

Maybe i should replace that too?

There's a clip on the column that provides a bump, which acts on a pair of sprung levers on the switch mechanism. You can see the levers on item 19 in this imagespitfireiii_plate_ah.jpg

and  the  clip is 4A in this:

    spitfire4_plate_t.jpg

Complete failure to cancel is normall the clip missing

Cancelling in the wrong place is normally column alignment (undo the bottom coupling, slide the inner column up, rotate to the right place, refit at the bottom, then remove the steering wheel and refit in the right position)

It's not unknown for one of the levers to stick, break or be missing. That gives self-cancelling one way but not the other.

Amazing! It was the steering column bumpy bit that was what i wanted to get my head around.
When i got the car the outer steering column was upside down! Completely lost steering on the way home. Luckily only when i was loading it onto a trailer.

    I'll get on this next!

  6. Well, the old speedo drive had basically fallen to bits. The quill bit was still stuck perfectly into the small gear though, so i reused that instead of my glued one, so a quick rebuild and it all works great.

I did cut a hole out of the tunnel cover though. For next time! All sealed up with duct tape and it's lovely and quiet inside now.
I even gave the top of the cover a respray.

Spent the rest of the day changing all the hoses for new and changing the coolant for 4 Life stuff. Thought i might as well as it's pretty much the same price as regular coolant via the club shop.

In the process of refitting the speedo cable into the back of the speedo i found the reason the flashers were not working and re connected the wire.
So now the only thing that's not working on the car is the indicator doesn't cancel in one direction (i forget which).
    So close to 100%!!
