I think you're right (well a 50% chance anyway!); I've been trawling through Hiace wiring diagrams and the white / black (or B- W on the diagram) goes from the negative terminal on the coil. That just leaves the other one, be it red or brown, for the power.

Lord those manuals are complicated. Give me a Triumph any day.

Looks like we have a winner!

never tow your triumph ( or any other cars )

on tow you are turning the gearbox mainshaft inside non rotating gears  there is no splash lubrication and after a good few mile you will sieze the box  this is why many tows use a spectable lift or remove the propshaft

you could fit a tap in the clutch pipe , depress the clutch lock it off and

    engage 4th gear

then it all goes round and round when towing

or leave it idleing when towing if its a runner

but its essential you turn  the gears on the shaft not the shaft in stationary gear sets

and that applies to any car especially automatics that have a front driven oil pump

a couple of miles to home is one thing a 150 mile trip is doomed

I had no idea. That's good to know!

Brill! You'll have great fun with that one. Half of the enjoyment is working on it, getting it the way you want it... then the first coffee at the seaside makes it all worth while.

Re the wiring: some of those two-wire systems just connect to both coil terminals, one to -ve and one to +ve. I can't find anything on the Net specific to the Hiace (other than the dreadful Fixya site which should come with a health warning.)

I'm enjoying the carpentry. Missing the simplicity of the vitesse though.
There is a guy in the owners club that recommended that dizzy. He can't remember what he did though.
I'll try and get more info.

so is that just two wires ??   here is just a guess !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at a guess the white black is the coil lead and the brown an ign feed

what make model is the new dizzy ????

    Pete

    yes just 2 wires

  5. I only went and did it! I think i've done ok. It was running ok, just a little underpowered. After a 150 mile trip back down south everything is running lovely!

Italian tune up does it again!

I've bought an electronic distributer as I couldn't get hold of any caps rotors or points. It's come with a plug on though so i'm confused on how to fit it.
The interior is coming on lovely though! Hopefully get some camping in this summer (if it ever arrives)

There's a tendency local to me, to advertise old vans as 'ideal camper conversions' and bump up the price accordingly. They're just basic end of life builders or labourers vans, but add that magical 'camper conversion' phrase and they're suddenly worth much more.

Yeah. Exactly. I know a guy that is importing Peugeot J7/J9 vans and selling them as catering vans. ££££££££££

Paula  , I  guess the price will escalate but its more of the camper than the toyo

I put a £4500 bid in and was outbid. The MOT history was really good. looks like a restoration in 2010 and sailed through every MOT after that.
Goes to show MOT's are probably more important than ever with the history being accessible by anyone.

    Hi

Definitely look into getting an Examination into the base vehicle. You can do a lot with interiors on a DIY basis. If you have the mechanical skills, Or a couple of good mates, running gear is manageable. But rectifying acres of Crusty, Rusty, underpinnings can  be costly. Be wary of Underseal too, it can cover a multitude of "sins". The T-5 was equally as prone to rot as it`s predecesor. Just in different places.

    Pete

P.S. Please don`t let me put you off, But be extra wary of stuff that old. I`ve thoroughly enjoyed my "campers".

    P

I've decided to avoid anything without a good MOT and i'm looking at MOT history too. It's a wonderful thing to be able to do!

Probably rotten underneath if the bubbles are anything to go by. Seller spends a lot of time on the interior and fittings and then adds a sneaky little composite photo of the rust, right at the end.

    Glad I was outbid now!
