So, when I stripped the Vitesse down the fuel pipe pick up was just plonked in the tank. There is a thread in the tank at the pick up pipe hole, but nothing to secure it with on the pipe. What should it have?

I installed in this order from the manifold:-
Gasket, insulator block, gasket, heat shield, gasket (I think, I'm going to check), carburetor.
Make sure all surfaces are clean and flat as you don't want air being sucked in the joints.
Iain
Thank you, I shall follow your lead.

On the daughters Mk2 Spit I made my own Al shields one for each carb and mounted them on the back on the manifold to carb flange, the reason so I can remove the shields to improve access to the engine bay without interfering with the carbs. It reqd the flange studs to be removed and the holes threaded right thro the flange & replacing the studs with threaded bar. The reason I fitted heat shields was Fuel Vapourissues.

If you mean 137882 Mick Dolphin lists them as rare which means he might have some.

He does and they are on the way to me, thanks.

When fitting carb. heat shields, where does one put them? Is it between the inlet manifold and the carb or is between the carb. and the air filter box?
-
Looks like Mick Dolphin is coming to the rescue again with the carb insulator blocks.

I've noticed mine goes from page 71 to page 77 that's all. But it still makes sense. Well after a couple of stiiff drinks anyway.
-
Did that include changing to nylock nuts as well? Which of course would be as much use as a chocolate fire guard on an exhaust manifold.
-
Argh right, thanks for that. I'll add spring washers.

Fantastic photo's Mike. Herald rally car, mmmmmm that's given me an idea!
-
Does anyone have any carb mounting blocks they can spare for Stromberg 150's? I need two please.
-
I've used brass long brass nuts to secure the downpipe to the manifold. Now, I haven't bothered with spring washers. I'm not sure if I should have but seem to think there not needed. Any ideas?

Yes indeed, the part not in stock at Paddock's were in stock at Rimmers (if slightly more expensive) and there response time was impressive as well.
-
I received a fantastic response time from James Paddock . I placed an order with them at 11am Friday morning and the item's arrived 24 hours later! Only down side was that they didn't have everything in stock.

I got a radiator in the traditional style off ebay. It was actually refurbished about 15 miles from me and the guy even delivered it!

Right, thanks. Those wiring diagrams are really helpful. I think having read all that info, I'll got with electric pump on a cut out.
-
They all look absolutely fantastic! Any for sale?
-
I'm thinking about fuel pumps now. My Vitesse came with a very noisey electric fuel pump on it. I have a spare pump. But I'm wondering should I revert it back to a mechanical pump like it had when it left the factory?
-
My Vitesse tank is currently half full of white vinegar which is gradually going brown. So, something is happening inside. Then a mate has got some Bilt Hamber Atom Mac, which apparently you dilute with presumably water (after washing the vinegar out )and that forms a protective seal until you fill with fuel.
