  1. Also been trying to cheer up a previous repair to PO made to the B Pillar assembly. Luckily the filler wasn't hiding anything nasty.
  2. Been a while since I posted. Have been busy but not found time to update here. I've since moved along to the front of the bulkhead and removed the commission plates etc. to tidy up everything. Amazing that even at this stage I'm finding things to remove still..
  3. But of a thread revival but I use a product called gummi pflege to keep rubber seals supple and prevent from drying out. Not sure if it is advertised for UV protection but seems to work quite well.
  4. Had a result and picked these powder coated originals on eBay for ~£20 delivered. Very happy with that!

The 100l SIP was delivered before Christmas but it was only today that I got to fire it up. Can only say that I'm glad for the recommendations here... it's unbelievably quiet. Though that wasn't what swayed me against the SGS compressor it's definitely a welcome plus!
  6. My old MK2 MR2 had a glass T-bar roof that leaked on me every time it rained. It's not fun getting a hair wash nor climbing into the puddle that accumulated in the bucket seat.. though my GT6 is garaged and will likely not be taken out in the rain anyway..
  7. I agree. I'll get some estimates to fabricate a panel and see what comes back. As I said, I'm not dead against keeping the sunroof as it is but at least I can explore the options a bit more before I crack on with the bodywork as the weather warms up.
  8. Unfortunately the webasto is just not my cup of tea so I guess I'll just have to see what comes up at the breakers if the spitfire hard top isn't an option.
  9. I've seen 2 different versions of the hard top. One is flat and rounded and the other has two lines/edges running front to back. I guess the former is the roundtail one you mentioned. What I have is a small sunroof, typical size of what you would get in a 90s hatchback. I think that's considerably smaller than a webasto type though I've never seen one in person. I've read and understand the argument to retain a sunroof due to heat but my heart just prefers the clean unfussy original look. Not sure I can find somebody I will trust to do a custom fab job on it that won't be out of my budget. I do appreciate the work involved will not be cheap.
  10. Hi My GT6 has at some point had a 90s looking sunroof fitted. Whilst I could live with it I'd much prefer to have a solid, original looking roof. I don't have the skills to fabricate a panel to fill it. The profile looks like it curves in both directions. Seems everyone who's had a webasto fitted discarded the sheet they cut out. So, I was wondering is the profile of the spitfire hard top a good match? It looks close but I'm only going on pictures I've seen online. Maybe somebody has done this before? Thanks
  11. Well it arrived long ago now, and it was in a bit of a sorry state. I cleaned it up best I could, replaced the oil seal and tensioner and then finished it with a coat of paint. It's not perfect but hopefully usable. The degrees marked on the tab are barely visible, but I hope between that and the multi mark pulley I have I can make it all work.
  12. Excellent thank you. Part going on order!
  13. Hi, Can anyone identify what this sensor is for please? It's located in the block, below the inlet/exhaust manifold. My book only seems to show the otherside of the engine where the oil pressure switch is.

    Core Plugs

I'm not sure if they require it per what the manual says, but I didn't see any harm in adding some when I did it recently. I'd curse it if there were any leaks, especially now that ancillaries are going on and I can see how difficult some of them would be to get at.
  15. So based on that logic mine is a RH. Shame the part isn't stamped with the number 🤷‍♂️ Yes, I have a sump pan that has already been 'modified'. Thanks for the photos. What was wrong with the other crank pulley? 😄
  16. Hi, Turns out in my boxes of parts I don't have both engine mounting brackets (for my 2.5PI engine). I think the one I have is a left hand bracket assuming I've offered it up properly, and im looking at the car from the front. Can someone confirm? Manual only shows 1 bracket, but canleys has 2 part numbers so I want to make sure I order the correct side.

Interesting, was 50l not a bit too small?

Thanks everyone. I've changed course and will pay the extra for a SIP compressor. 👍

I think the cheaper one is without the accessories. I agree with what you say regarding SGS as a brand. At that price point it's a hard one to pass on. I have a smaller 25l compressor already so I guess I'd be gambling on this one serving me long enough to spray the shell.. and anything more is a bonus. I hadn't heard of SIP before so I'll check those out too! Low noise would be a really nice plus, but not a deal breaker.

    Compressor

Hi, Looking for a compressor primarily for painting and I've narrowed it down to this: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/sc100v-100-litre-high-flow-air-compressor-tool-kit Looks to have a high CFM rating and with a 100l tank it shouldn't run out of puff too often. I was wondering about oil vs oiless but as far as I can tell oil fed is ok so long as I have a oil & water trap connected, right? Anything else I should beware of, or does this look like a good buy? Thanks
  21. I had BL badges on my GT6 but PO removed them. He thoughtfully stored them in a jar that came with the boxes of parts so when my resto is done they'll be going back on.
  22. I've been waiting for a mk3 flywheel in the post to replace the earlier GT6 flywheel I previously sourced. Along with that I have a crank pulley and spark plugs arriving shortly too. Whilst waiting around I got bored and decided to start cheering up the windscreen frame and the top of the bulkhead (unsure of its correct name). I took it back to bare metal and sorted some of the previously applied filler out before cleaning up with alcohol, tack cloths and then spraying on a coat of epoxy primer. It went pretty well so I'll continue with the lower sections of the bulkhead.
  23. Followed the book today and I'm feeling much happier with the clearances. I'm really not sure what we did wrong yesterday but something messed up along the way. Here's another couple videos with the crank in different positions, and clearances set to 0.010".
  24. Thanks Pete. Happy to be proved wrong if it means I get a better running engine.
  25. Thanks. We'll have another crack at it then and see if that gives a better result. I didn't feel it was quite right.
