Hi, Please can someone confirm what size the thread is for the oil pressure switch, where it screws into the side of the engine block? Is it 1/8th NPT? I have found this but is it the right size for the Herald engine? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273520725705 I ask as I need to replace it with an adapter like in the attached link, so I can fit an oil pressure gauge. Two gauges I always fit: Water and Oil: I prefer to see what the water temp and the oil pressure are doing, before a warning light shows in the speedo, by which time it's usually too late anyway..... Well I kept looking and one came up that looked right, quite cheap but then it is a bit pitted. However I don't mind a bit of 'patina', especially if it increases the chances of me keeping the fuel I paid for in my tank by making a bit harder to nick. Came with two keys and the lock turns freely...... But it didn't seem that it would actually lock anything..... So I took it apart and found that someone had removed the 'locking bar' that is supposed to pop out when you turn the key and stop the cap from being turned and removed???🙄 A bit of an odd thing to do, especially when you consider that they had then put it all back together again. Never mind, it gave me the small challenge of making up a replacement locking bar (arrowed in image below) and the spacer needed to clamp it in place once it's all screwed back together. C'est la vie............. It is now all back together, greased up and the screws locktighted in place to be sure. 🙂 I'm still surprised that the likes of Rimmer Bros. don't supply chrome ones off the shelf though............ Personally I've no problem with the accelerator pedal in my Herald, it's the brake and clutch pedals that I might consider bending slightly over to the left. Best wishes, Mike.

A single 1 3/4" SU would be my preference, if I can ever find an adapter to swap from downdraft to sidedraft. Never been a fan of Strombergs. Best wishes, Mike.

Just to say thanks for all the replies and i will look into them, I now have a spare dash, which I want to alter first to accomodate a radio in place of the ashtray. I don't smoke, so for me the ashtray is redundant. Which means I have a good ashtray and it's corresponding bracket going free to anyone who wants it and is willing to cover the postage costs. Or you can collect it from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, if you are nearby. I've been meaning to ask, is there is a local branch of the club near me? Best wishes, Mike.

Hi, Firstly, I couldn't be sure which forum section to put this in, so please excuse me if it's in the wrong one. Something I've noticed from the outset is the offset pedals, which I do find take some getting used to. I'm guessing they were offset to the right in relation to Triumph's sporting image, as opposed to the more standard (straight) pedal positions in my Morris. If there is a historical reason behind the offset positioning I'd be interested to hear about it. However, as I don't intend racing my Herald 1200, I thought I'd inquire as to whether is it possible to get hold of a standard 'straight' set pedal box for her? I admit I've noticed it more since fitting the spoked banjo steering wheel that I have repaired and refurbished and I must also admit I didn't realise it had a larger diameter until I fitted it to her. I love the look but I will take the opportunity now to refurbish the original steering wheel, in case I decide to swap back. If not (regarding the pedal box) I'll just have to get used to it. Hi, The Heater control and Air Distribution control switches seem to have a different type of nut secuting them to the dash than the other 'two slot ringnuts' securing the other switches (apart from the choke cable which secures with a nut behind the dash like most do). Is there a special tool for removing these two? Best wishes, Mike.

Thanks to all for the above, I now have the halfords rivet gun, which jumps just as described above, despite me having one hand covering it. I think I was getting the hang of it after two or three........ 😄 Shame the door strip was slightly warped and would not go back onto the last two rivets (too worn and distorted -- previous owners had tried to glue it back in place). I tried reshaping it and putting it on the other way around (after using wire wool to remove overspray from the white stripe) but after several attempts still no joy..... So I've ordered a new one from Rimmer Bros, however they are out of stock, so it's now on back order, should be in by the end of June....... Best wishes, Mike.

Okay. So long as they don't turn into rust magnets....... As an aside, I recently posted requesting advice about a rivet gun, as I need to refit the chrome trim to the drivers door (some old rivets had broken off), anyway with the trim removed I spotted the typical 'rush job' giveaway of white overspray on it and on closer inspection of this and the 'quality' of the white side stripe I am almost certain that it is a later addition. I now have 5 litres of Wedgewood blue, so it's days are numbered..... Best wishes, Mike.

Hi, What is the most suitable rivet gun to install the rivets that hold the side trim in place? A thought has occurred to me that on Morris Minor diffs there are identifying numbers stamped into the casing, are there any on Triumph diffs? If so, what is the identifying mark for a 3-63:1 diff? Is there a list of identifying numbers for diffs on here? Many thanks, Mike.

The previous owners had already named her and I said I was happy to go with that. I'd never heard of that song until now.............. Thanks, one thing that will bother me though is that there are a couple of small spits in the top of the drivers door, one on the inside below the quarterlight and one on the outside in front of it. A shame because the door sits really well and are in line with the body (not sticking out), so I don't want to reskin. Is this common? Caused by constant use / slamming of the door?
