  1. Hi Colin, Where can I get one of these carb adapters from? Many thanks, Mike.
  2. Hi, I'm on the lookout for a chromed or stainless steel locking fuel cap that will fit my Triumph Herald 1200. I've looked online but so far all I can see are black plastic ones. I can see locking chrome ones for spitfires, in fact I bought one on the strength that it looked like it might fit from the pictures in the advert and has the same three lugs but found it to be too large for the Herald. If anyone knows a source or has a period one for sale I would be grateful. Many thanks, Mike.
  3. I thought it looked the same too but I am new to Triumph parts, I'll post up some pictures when it arrives. And I thought when it rained here it rained there as well........... 😄 Best wishes, Mike.
  4. The fan is bagged. At that price, including a water pump, it was too good to miss. Initially it will keep the fan on it but I can see how the lighter weight and seven angled blades of the plastic fan would make it more efficient, so once its cleaned up (and possibly repainted) I think I will fit the plastic one. I don't see a bush kit on the Rimmers Bros site, however I note the Canley Classics site like to show a schematic breakdown of all components, the same as or similar to the workshop manual. I am still finding my way round their site, do you have to call them to place orders? It looks like they'd be the best place to go for such a kit. For me the RimmerBros site is easier to navigate and order parts online but they don't seem to cover everything..... I also notice that all the recommendations for where to get parts I've had on here point towards Canley Classics. Is there a general consensus on here that favours them over others? Best wishes, Mike.
  5. Hi, Waterless coolant has been discussed on the MMOC site before now, consensus of opinion seems to be that it is not the best solution / a good idea for our type of classics. Personally, whilst one of my Minors has silicone brake fluid (Dot 5) installed, as far coolant is concerned I will be sticking with the blue antifreeze mixed with water. I'm watching this, looks right to me: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224433284520?epid=1316853409&hash=item34414425a8:g:X5IAAOSwdBpgf2f3 Best wishes, Mike.
  6. Thanks, their site appears to be down but this does at least give me a contact number. Best wishes, Mike.
  7. No, just looking to get the best out of the 1200 and ensure it copes with anything I might ask of it in modern traffic conditions / on motorways. Oddly I'm not drawn to the TR range or the GT6. Don't get me wrong, I like them, I just have no desire to own one. If I was to go for another Triumph it would probably be an early 2000. But for now I'm content with just the Herald and to spend, where neccessary, on that. I'll stick with the standard fan set up then. (Saves me money as well! 😃) Best wishes, Mike.
  8. As an aside, I have watched the 'Car SOS' episode, when they restored a Herald and updated it to fuel injection. Whilst I like the idea I dread to think how much it cost out here in the real world..... Any idea what the equivalent SU would be? HS4? Best wishes, Mike.
  9. Hi, I know, me again, so many questions..... Sorry, I'm new to Triumph ownership. I'm going to have my rad recored, so that I'm starting with a clean modern core that will cope better with modern traffic conditions, as I hope to use here on a regular basis. Also, in every car I've bought over the recent years Minor or MGB, it seems that previous owners, even in this enlightened(?) day and age, still think plain tap water is sufficient for cooling purposes.......🙄 However my question is this, will I be okay to stick with the original mechanical fan or would I be better swapping to an electric (temperature driven) one long term? I imagine most of my journeys will be local / accross the peak district, however I will need to travel further by motorway on occasion. As an aside I have purchased and will be fitting an oil cooler (lesson learnt the hard way a few years back in a Minor). Many thanks, Mike.
  10. Hi, I had a look for EP services online and found several companies using that name, please could someone post up a link to the correct EP services on here. Many thanks, Mike.
  11. Thanks for the replies. On the 'A' series in Morris Minors I have always found that a single larger SU works better than a smaller twin carbs set up, though this may be down to the design of the 'A' series itself. However it makes me wonder if a single larger carb may work better on the standard Triumph 1200 than a HS2 twin set up? Of course I am ready to stand corrected on this. Best wishes, Mike.
  12. Hi, What is the best Carb to get the most out of a Herald 1200 engine performance wise? Personally I prefer SU to Solex or Stromberg but what about a Weber? Best wishes, Mike.
  13. mmmmm...... Given what you've said, the essance of which, if I understand correctly, is that I could very well end up with the same diff ratio that I already have, I think I will leave this one then and look for one that is known to come from a 1500. I am in no hurry. Will there be trade / car boot stands at the combined Triumph / MG weekend later in the year? I do like a good rummage....... 😄 Best wishes, Mike.
  14. Thanks Johny / Pete, This is the one I saw: https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwi29_f7hKjwAhUKsO0KHX06AbEYABAOGgJkZw&ae=2&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESQeD25jOJKfDKktc8OdmCe1NJI0aNtQ3IryKsPuZO5zFHgYcUSx44P0i-iIzl6JKFUmdrGGypJEPNmxo67mKTxL9c&sig=AOD64_3waRTEW7zowQkN6DRf5RHRSsrUrA&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjm2fD7hKjwAhXCoFwKHVjMAp0Q9aACegUIARCAAQ&adurl= Best wishes, Mike.
  15. There's a Spitfire mk4 3.89 diff being advertised? Or is this a step too far? If so I'll keep looking for the one you suggested. Best wishes, Mike.
  16. Hopefully it will just state 26, it's going either way but it would be nice if it was 'reinstatement' rather than just my preference. If it was original it's odd that it's chipped down to a good blue underneath and didn't seem the same quality?.... I will inspect it again and find that comission plate. Is it located on the bulkhead? It also has a white Webasto, I know Webasto's were fitted from new but white ones? I thought they were all black? Best wishes, Mike.
  17. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully the horn won't cause too many issues. I've never had a moggy steering wheel do that but there's always a first time. Best wishes, Mike.
  18. Thanks Pete. I shall have to find a spitfire 3.63:1 diff then, time to start perusing the classifieds. I shall also check my sockets to make sure I have both those sizes ready. Best wishes, Mike.
  19. Hi, As an update, I have found and bought the below. Her name is Hetty and she's from Wales, I hope to collect her in about a weeks time. I don't beleive from looking at it in the flesh, so to speak, that the white side stripe is original to this car. The paint finish isn't as good as the main blue colour and it has chipped off in a couple of places to reveal the blue beneath. So I shall get hold of some Wedgewood blue paint and get a bottom half respray. Bodily she appears sound, plus the doors don't stick out. I appraised her as used but honest. Overall the blue is in good condition but I may see about getting the whole bonnet resprayed as there is a small dent towards the front that will bug me. Underneath the bonnet and the bulkhead has been 'blacked', if I get the whole bonnet done it will be inside as well as out, which will just leave the bulkhead for another day. I'd like to enjoy her for a while, before I start stripping her to bits, as I would need to remove the engine and ancilleries, plus all items bolted to the bulkhead first. So that job can wait a while. Best wishes, Mike.
  20. Hi, I have found a Herald and hope to pick it up very soon, in the meantime I have been putting together a few spares etc. I have managed to get hold of a spoked (banjo) steering wheel I am have refurbished and hope to fit. The horn push that came with it is the same, so another good spare there, however I need to know what size the nut is that holds the steering wheel in place (I prefer to use a socket rather than the old hammer and chisel method😄). Also I have spotted a diff for a 1360 on eBay, for a good price, will this be an improvement on the standard 1200 diff (for motorway work / longer journeys) or isn't it worth the bother? Thanks and best wishes, Mike.
  21. That is a nice one, price is now £5500 (buy it now)...... As for the 948 blue one, I wonder if what's under the bonnet has been changed to match the 'pimp my ride' look?...... Best wishes, Mike.
  22. He should have found another fiance, with better taste! 😄 Best wishes, Mike.
  23. Hi Colin, A 1954 Split-screen four door cheesegrater, up on axle stands due to welding work. One more wing to tidy (weld) up and then she should be ready for paint. However the chap doing the painting had a dose of Covidand has now been diagnosed with early COPD, so I'm not sure when he'll be able to return to the project at present..... I like the standard look with a few subtle mods under the skin, for example, she now has vented discs and a slightly 'breathed on' 948 mated to a 1098 box, prop and rear axle, instead of the asthmatic 803 she started with... I like your white Herald but always found white a pain to keep clean when in regular use. Best wishes, Mike.
  24. Wow, thanks Paul, just spotted this. I shall have to call him and see if he still has it. I was leaning more to £6000 max but there is nothing (apart from lockdown restrictions) stopping me from going to see it. Then, if it's as it appears in the pictures, I can always make an offer.... Best wishes, Mike.
  25. Thanks Adrian, somewhere between £4500 and £6000 seems about right. It's the saloon that they had, so although tempted by a convertible -- I think they're even better looking than a Minor convertible but don't tell the MMOC..... There was one on Gumtree but they wanted about £8500 and, though very nice, it was definitely not concours. I got bthe impression from the wording that they wouldn't budge far from that, if at all.... So head does rule heart, unless one comes along in the price range I mentioned above..... Best wishes, Mike.
