  1. I’d very much like to fix my door alignment. The doors rear side align perfectly to the back of the car’s chassis, but just not at the front, which leads me to believe that the bonnet is the problem here. Maybe it’s too far forward? Any tips on fixing this? the doors also bend outwards a bit whereas the bonnet sucks in when it’s clipped in, making the gap more prominent
  2. I can’t figure out how to get access to the second bolt of the door handle. I removed the door panel but it’s still not accessible, I need to take the handle off completely.
  3. Nope, couldn’t find that bit anywhere. Also the bolt and nut were brand new as I fitted them myself with the alternator conversion kit. Very weird
  4. Finally got round to taking a look and I’m rather shocked to have found out that the problem was as seen in the picture attached. Somehow my alternator mounting bolt had sliced clean off mid drive, and the nut was rattling around in the chassis?!! I’m not even sure how this could possibly have happened!
  5. Probably best to look when I’m home, at another services now. Hopefully it’s just something below the bonnet knocking like the heater lead, or even under the dashboard. It’s hard to tell of course cause I can only test it going 79mph down the m1 which isn’t the greatest idea!
  6. Noticed engine is also very jumpy…going up and down revs on idle
  7. I was just going down the motorway in my Herald 13/60 and all of a sudden a very loud knocking sound came out of nowhere, it then continued any time I go above 60mph. It’s extremely loud, I can’t tell where abouts it’s coming from in the car, any clues?
  8. Just wondering how i can go about tightening my handbrake. Did some testing the other day and found that my car rolls away on even a slight incline unless i have the handbrake cranked to the very very top. Is it as simple as tightening a nut under the carpets like in modern cars, or is there much more to think about? Cheers

    Dizzy cap order

Just had a thought..I have my plugs labelled 1234, but how do I know if they’re on the correct dizzy terminal? I’ve seen some dizzys where the first plug is connected to a different terminal to the one on my dizzy. Would I have to set it to TDC and watch the rotor rotate from there?
  10. Interesting, i'll have a look at that tomorrow before i buy a clip-on just in case i can increase my view. Cheers pete
  11. Only up and down movement unfortunately, not inwards or outwards! I think overall to preserve the look of the car and avoid ugly holes, i'm going to go with the quarterlight clip-ons, wasn't aware they were a thing. Thanks everyone, much appreciated as always.
  12. (Forgot to attach the photo of my wing mirrors).
  13. I find the wingmirrors on my Herald to be quite poor, they can’t be rotated inwards/outwards and provide a very small field of view. on my car they are fixed to the bonnet, but I’d much prefer them to be on the doors, closer to me. Has anybody gone about this change? How do they fit on, are they screwed in to the bonnet? As I don’t really want to be leaving holes behind. alternatively, are there some better ‘classic styled’ wingmirrors out there that have full rotation and movement so that I can achieve a wider field of view? I can’t seem to find any specifically. Many thanks
  14. Success! Took a trip to the shop to get a hacksaw and an m6 bolt, cut through the old bolt with some grief and bent the clamp back in to shape. Cheers all, much appreciated.
  15. That would make sense. I converted it myself, the adjuster bracket that came with the aconversion kit was far too short so I left on the old Dynamo one
  16. Unfortunately it’s impossible to push the bolt out, as was said above I reckon best bet is to take the whole thing off and saw through the bolt on a workbench so gonna give that a crack
  17. I put the old smaller Belt on, took the entire mount off and attached it back on with the belt on. Squealing has stopped, however this belt has a lot of cracks so I need to find out what length it is. Will try the one mentioned above, cheers
  18. There is a chance that I actually don’t know how to tighten it. You see I thought the sliding bracket is how you tighten it but maybe there is a way of moving the pulleys around?
  19. The old has no data, here is the long one:
  20. I kept my old fan belt and I just measured, it is far FAR smaller, infsct too small to get around the alternator Hahahah. I have two useless belts!
  21. So little update, just been over to the car. I decide to go with a new clamp in the end, however it’s the wrong one even though the seller told me it would fit hahah. ive attached a picture of the clamp I need, some kind of side clamp thing. as you can see sawing the bolt would be challenging also.
  22. I’ve heard that if you can turn the longest run over half way it’s too loose. Also when I start my car and Rev, I get a squealing sound so I need to tighten the belt. But as you can see it can’t get any tighter? Do I just need to buys shorter belt? This one came with the alternator conversion kit so I’m a bit confused.
