  1. Roger that will have a look through. Still concerned about the temp gauge level though!
  2. Well here we are again. I knew it would only be a matter of time before i was back here asking for help! 😂 Two days ago when i was driving, about 30mph 3rd gear, my engine randomly stopped. I believe the dash lights didn't come on though, meaning the car was still 'on', but giving gas was doing nothing, but i'm not 100% on this..maybe it did turn off. Anyway with a quick flick off and on again it started. Today again, when going up a slight hill in 3rd, the engine started kicking back, feeling stuttery like it was going to cut out again. It also cut out randomly when i first started it up a few hours ago too. I took a photo of the temp gauge, it had backed off a tiny bit by this point but is still worryingly high. It is of course very hot at the moment, but i've driven in not far off temperatures for much longer and it's sat in the middle. The temp gauge i would say has over time been creeping up and up though, over the past year. So what do we think is causing these cut outs? Is it just down to the heat? This was a very short drive, about 15 minutes and it got this hot in that time. I must also add that i have an unresolved engine knocking issue that comes in when the car is under high load, mainly at high RPM going up or down hills, if this would effect it at all.
  3. Yeah it’s definitely got micro blisters all over the bonnet and cracked paint on the back. I guess it’s my own fault for still risking it regardless!
  4. Yeah I have to say I couldn’t believe my luck when I found the car, it was the exact colour combo I envisioned when I was first wanting a herald!
  5. Yeah I previous owner had done a poor paint job unfortunately. so far I have used a paint pen to fill in lots of the little chips, then I’m going to compound it and polish tomorrow and just fill in again if any more chips occur. Can’t really see another simple way around it. As for the rest of the vehicle, the drivers side has seen success, apart from some small odd patches where too much sanding seemed to bring out a lighter green layer of paint but it’s not too noticeable from afar.
  6. So I finally got round to wet sanding my car to remove orange peel…well unfortunately there were plenty of bumps that turned in to chips. No idea how to fix this now. I’m guessing I’d have to respray the whole bonnet? pretty devastated. Wish I’d never touched it.
  7. Resorting to sand paper to fix it. Seems a shame to have to as the paint is really on its last legs but rather have some chips than a big water mark!
  8. I have no idea if it’s cellulose unfortunately, polish made it a tiny bit better but not much. In fact even a bit of g3 compound doesn’t seem to be fixing it
  9. Car cover has been on for a week, pulled it off today to see this damage…I don’t like to leave the cover on for this reason but as it was left somewhere Away from home I don’t like to expose it too much. Anyway moisture must’ve gotten under it. reckon this could be fixed with some cutting compound?
  10. Ah okay I’ll have a look at it when I get home and see if it needs a bit of a clean up
  11. Yeah the actual rotation of the dizzy can’t have changed as it’s secured tightly. I do however have an electrical ignition though.
  12. Here we are again, lol. After a good few weeks of the car running perfectly, i'm back to high idle, high counter, and kickback when starting! Started happening again after a 2 hour drive. So bizarre. Since i adjusted the fuel mixture and replaced solenoid & ground it was perfect for ages, but now it's all started again! Don't think i'll ever get to the bottom of it.
  13. Excellent info, thankyou. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks as I’m away next week.
  14. Okay I’ll get some g3 in, that should complete my process! Thanks. final question, how many layers of compound and how many layers of polish would you normally use? I’ve been applying 4 layers of polish to get scratches out but I’m guessing now I’m using compound I’ll only need one layer of polish at the end?
  15. That’s very cheap. I currently use Autoglym polish (see pic) right after sanding. Should I use g3 before applying that do you think?
  16. Weird that seems to have happened a few times. Ah well, not much to see!
  17. Roger that, I’ll head in to town today to get a proper block!
  18. Thanks Chris, very detailed response! Maybe I should just stick to hand sanding then. Am I able tl use a small chunk of wood as my block? As I don’t have any actual sanding blocks currently
  19. Okay that sounds like a good plan thanks, yeah I used 1500 as a test and it blitzed right through so definitely won’t be going that low again.
  20. Coming back to this, found a use for my old indicator LED’s…interior lights since I just found out apparently heralds are meant to have them, mine just didn’t! Although, wiring it to the headlights switch wasn’t the wisest idea as now I have to have headlights on any time I want the interiors on too 😂 IMG_3732.MOV
  21. I was wet sanding, maybe I just didn’t polish the scratches out enough. Christ I think 400 grit would wipe my paint clean off Paul!
  22. I sanded/polished/waxed one panel of my herald yesterday by hand to remove orange peel, and it looks great, but i feel it could be better. I have ordered a little polisher/sander (this one to be precise https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125160723570) but im not sure if i should use it for sanding or not. Do we think it will be better? There are some minor visible scratches from my hand sanding work, and im wondering if using an electric sander will help to prevent this, and cut away the orange peel better. I'm also curious, as im using 2000grit followed by 3000grit (taking no chances by going lower, my paint is quite feeble in some areas) would it be possible for me to go right through if i just...kept sanding? Or does it not work like that? In other words is the 2000grit made to take away a layer of bumps, but wont go any further than that, or will it just keep removing layers if i keep applying it?
  23. Indeed, quite a fan of it, i feel like it looks more complete. Don't think it was for an aerial though either. The previous owner left a box of things and this was in there, it could be completely unrelated to the car but thought i should ask incase! Or maybe someone knows where i can find something similar.
