  1. Took for a drive last night, revs continue to be higher than normal, at idle of course it is fine because i adjusted the idle screw but this doesn't fix the problem for whilst driving. As for dampener oil i couldn't tell you as it's been in there since before i had the car. So we're still at square one really, but atleast i dont have to sit in the car vibrating and humming loudly at idle lol. I'm still putting my money on air leak, higher revs, stuttering too when idle...needle jumps about a bit and car jitters and jolts. Think best bet is to get hold of a smoke tester machine and have a look? My car fits the bill for all the symptoms described here: https://www.sundevilauto.com/reasons-your-car-is-vibrating-when-idle/ so it could be any number of these, most are ruled out due to the car not being modern, which pretty much leaves me with vacuum leak.
  2. It’s really interesting to hear many of you have this opinion, I would have never thought this to be the case. Good news though, I’ll simply keep the paint job as it is and fix minor dings
  3. Slight change of plan. Noticed a little black patch when the bonnet was up today and scrubbed away sh*t to discover my official colour code was definitely Laurel, so I’ve ordered a touch up paint pot. if this doesn’t match up due to colour fading and such, then I will simply decide that I no longer care.
  4. Oh I tried pulling the pedal forward as one of the first things, no luck though. Also I get higher than normal revs when driving too, not just idle! sorry to hear about your situation as well. Hope the chemo is helping, all the best to you.
  5. Appreciate that Jeff, and yeah I wish it was that simple, but if the throttle cable wasn’t returning then there would be a gap between the idle adjustment screw and the base no?
  6. As for the revs issue, I’ve adjusted the idle screw now to basically pretend the problem doesn’t exist 😂 if the revs continue to jump up again in the future then there’s definitely a bigger issue to deal with. video below of the throttle cam IMG_3367.MOV
  7. I believe because the screw was so far out, over time the throttle coming up and down to get past it has bent it, it’s always been very stiff to pull out and this is clearly why
  8. How’s this gap? Big enough?
  9. Few more observations I’ve just made. I can hear air being sucked in (I guess?) through the carb air filter, still haven’t located a leak. i just read online about screws that can adjust the mixture of fuel and air that you can find on the carb, could be of some help? IMG_3364.MOV
  10. Yeah I sprayed a bit of starting fluid around the hoses, no luck…this is really becoming a pain…the reason I think it’s an air leak is because some of the symptoms include higher revs, and engine struggling to start, both of which I’m having. I only sprayed on a couple parts. Bit concerned about going all over with it incase I blow myself up
  11. I’m very convinced it’s an air leak I just need to find out where, I’ve seen people blow smoke in to the air intake, considering doing this
  12. Hmmm I would say it’s down? IMG_3360.MOV IMG_3360.MOV
  13. Wouldn’t say a mechanical clunk, more just a thud from landing IMG_3357.MOV
  14. The dread continues, just pulled out my spark plugs to find they’re all coated in oil…definitely contributing to some of the misfiring
  15. You’ll have to excuse my lack of knowledge but I’m not actually too sure what that is or what I’d be looking at Pete, doing some googling now
  16. Ok more news, not sure if this means anything. I have the engine running and I spray starting fluid in to the carb, the idle momentarily slows down to a more normal speed. Or is this normal? Is there maybe a vaccum leak? Too much air getting in? I thought if anything it would rev up!
  17. Turned it on and warmed it up, sitting again at 1500ish idle, but nothing looks different around the carb area. Still sounds as if throttle is being slightly pushed even though it’s clearly not
  18. Oh also I checked my alternator, putting out expected power so no issues there
  19. Few days later of testing, still having issues. It’s fine in the morning however after one drive, and during the drive, the revs are higher on the tacho. Seems to get higher throughout the day even. mat first I was convinced it was a misreading but now I am certain it’s not. I can hear the difference, the car at idle sounds like if the pedal was slightly pressed, running a bit faster. I’m thinking either the throttle or choke is sticking but I’ve tried pulling both back and still nothing. Really strange.
  20. I called up and they said it takes them a couple of days so they request you to post it in instead. Can’t see me posting a door! was thinking of taking off some paint from the chassis behind the dashboard, however as you say I imagine this to be a different colour entirely to the outside colour. Oh dear it really is one of the most difficult problems to solve without spending 3 grand on a repaint. thing is…my paint is on its last legs. It comes off if you blow on it. I plan to sell the car at the end of the year so it’s not worth me paying for a respray. That’s why I considered doing a vinyl wrap myself. Or maybe…I just leave it. The paint will bring the value down though for sure.
