I am just trying to encourage others to try the same (perhaps not so exstream)
But don,t get old before your time!
This town we booked into on a whim is great (we changed our route back when we saw the so called motorways around Pisa etc.
The plot is not correct I will try and work it out
I think we hit about 2300 miles on Gladlys2 our sat nav (Speedo broken)
Here are a few more photo to encourage you (still like the Spaniards more!)

Hello John and anybody else
Yes the wife lasting very well and 47 years of nurturing (looking afer) has paid off?
And spitty is doing well as well (No bits fell off today and some of the roads are (what can I say to be polite? (S**t)
We climbed to 5000 feet today but no views as it was Forrest!!!!!!!!
We are in Certaldo tonight and going on the tram thing up the hill later to the old town for dinner and I noticed they were setting up a stage in the town square so could be singing and dancing later after the fizzy wine!
Off to Pavullo Onel Frignano tomorrow via the mountains (again)
Then it will be a bit of a slog for 2 days to get to Classic Le Mans but worth it
Roger
Ps the breakfast photo only shows half of the spread (and that is what I am doing?)

Hello All
Disaster has struck may have to go home on a low loader?
Speedo cable broke coming out of Narni 2 miles from another rough digs @ £34 a night for 2 including breakfast!
Have been forced to eat icecream again in the heat(30+deg)
Day started with an excellent breakfast.
We did a quick trip up main road to carsoli and then on s32 I think up to colle do Tora along the lake then up the s33 to stipes and over the mountain and down to Rieti(icecream stop)
We saw a green snake cross the road about 18"to 24"long (did not stop!)
We then went on the main road and through a tunnel about 4kilometers long.
We went up to Narni and had walk about and small drinking for medicinal reasons!
The Disaster struck (but sat nav will keep track of mileage) Speedo 2158 sat nav 2072
One photo shows wife waiting at bus stop on sp33 in stipes
Off to Civita tomorrow near Bolsena lake
Last photo from rubbish room!

Hello John
Spitty,s tickover has gone right down but I think it is the fuel? Lead free and 95 but not sure how much E in it? It does not say on pumps in Italy!
But she runs ok but then I do run Megajolt with vacuum and temperature compensation!
Off to to Narni tomorrow only about 80 miles but taking the scenic route (No autostrada)
Looking forward to going to Civita following day and Bolsena on the Lava di Bolsena lake
Roger
Ps start planing and consider Spain? Up to now enjoyed it more (people seem more friendly?)
But all good in a TRIUMPH,s of all types not euroboxes! They are for shopping and OLD people
Forgot to say we saw a Ford Capri Mk2 in Matera not sure of size as behind us
Now I like the idea of still in the back garden for home consumption of course?

Hello All
Are you ready for your daily fix of photos?
We left Campobasso and headed to Avezzano via the mountain roads and turned out to be one of the best days driving days so far!
Hi light was Opi and got chatting to an American couple from New York
Got to altetude 5000+ft one the way.
I it makes you all feel better we got caught in a rain shower (persisted down for 5 mins)just stopped and put up umbrella until it passed then went for more cake and coffee!
Hello Aidan yes go for it either a small tour of Brittany or sail to Santander and tour the Picos area you will both love it
We always use Booking dot com for accomadation as you can cancel at no cost up to 24hours in advance in most cases.
Seem to be having trouble with WiFi or TSSC site

No we just booked accomadation and formed a very rough plan and went for it as is our usual style!I've really had enough now and I'm not going to read any more of this Roger. It's been eleven degrees and miserable here today and there's you and Mrs Roger living the life of Lotus Eaters in a land of Ambrosia (and I don't mean the creamed rice made here in Lifton) . Am I envious- you bet your life I am! You've obviously put a great deal of thought and planning into this holiday and it really has and is paying off. Actually I can't wait for the next instalment but you'll have to go some to beat these pictures.
We are not travelling in the third world there are all ways hotels available if it goes pear shaped (I was going to say t*ts up but thats rude?)
Life is to short to worry about all that can go wrong (and I do worry but the wine helps!)

Hello All
We are now at Campobasso about 1925 miles covered.
Not particularly interesting drive but not on autostrada (its a big country!)
Spitty slept with a Lancia last night and is sleeping with a Bentley Tonight?(better worse?)but she is such a tart it will not matter!
The photo of me at the car wash says it all!
Off to Avezzano way tomorrow only about 110 miles(just a stroll?)
Keep seeing young? ladies at the side of the road but they appear to have nothing for sale but when I stop they try and get in Spitty with me! What shall I do?
We did not get lost today well only a bit and it was only a small argument for a change but we get over it when the cork pops on the Prosseco.

Hello All
Here we are day 8 and in Matera and 1730 miles covered!
It's been a mixed day easy run down autostrada for 100miles except for the bit that's falling down and diversion.
Then ordinary roads a bit rough in places but good views and came across a pig in the road!
Then got lost going into Matera and hot but hey ho that's par for the course.
Roger
Ps silly me we saw a TRIUMPH SPITFIRE on the autostrada in contra flow but so gob smacked forgot to take photo think it had a rally plate on it and it was white think Mk3?

Hello John and all others
Yes when they tried to make me go up that steep ramp to the open deck I said no to steep for old cars (they do not send any of the Classic cars up there when off to Le Mans there would be a riot!)
We have been to Pisa today (V hot again) now at Piombino (1200+miles covered now)
I thought I would push the b******r down but the wife was holding it up (foiled again?)
I think the Italians must have built our cottage looking at their work?
Off past Rome tomorrow?

Hello John
I enjoyed your blog and it has got me thinking perhaps? I can do the same?
We are off on Monday on what we are calling our Italian trip sailing Portsmouth to Le Havre (overnight ferry and yes I have booked a cabin££££)
The plan then is 300 miles to first stop then another 300 to Italy(Via the Col du Mont Cenis pass) we hope or maybe on the way back?
http://www.dangerousroads.org/europe/france/228-mont-cenis-france.html
Then we will travel down the amalfi coast to Pompei then across country to Matera(cave houses etc)
Then wander back up the middle to Civita.
http://www.romeartlover.it/Bagnoregio.html
Then over to Pisa.
Then retrace our steps back up to Classic Le mans.
Then after that couple of days at Normandy landings area.
All hotels etc booked via booking.com. route roughly worked out?
Now the panic is starting to set in as it looks like we will cover about 3500 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still I went to classic Spa with my son a few weeks ago and did 1000 miles Thursday night to Monday night.
So what could possibly go wrong? after all we are only in a 35 year old car with a combined age of 173 with driver and passenger!!!!!

Hello Darren
I made one out of several for my spitfire about 4 to 5 years ago,as Pete says its not rocket science.
Have a read of this link.
http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/
I must admit I fininshed up with a 28% J type(a bit overgeared but nice when cruising on motorways)And I have a very slight whine but that is probably due to being a mix of parts that have worn in to different parts(can only hear it when the hood is up)and it has covered about 15,000 miles now.
I found it worth getting a pressure guage to set the pressure as you dont want the high pressure of the TR's and big saloons

Classic Le Mans via Italy?

Hello John and anybody who not to bored
We covered about 100 miles today and finished up just outside Pavullo at another dose house but what can you expect for €60 B&B dinner extra.
Hot again and only on wrong road a few times!
I will be a slog tomorrow back to Italian/French border
Drinking supermarket own label Red fizzy at €1.99 and is more than acceptable.
Here are the days crop of photos
We saw a nice MGA while having breakfast at cafe and a early soft top beetle
Do not think will be much to show next 2 days and will not have WiFi at Classic Le Mans
But will update from Normandy landing area
Roger
