None I could see. Possibly Stiction of oil between the two flat cup type surfaces which are held into gearbox by the clamp. Main reason is probably me being too gentle with disassembly method.
Pete L, johny, and Paul. I held the short drive in the vice and pulled the angle drive housing by using “Guy the gorilla “ tactics 😀. The two parts are now separated and I can now look for new seals.
Thank you all for your help and support 👍
Pete
Hi johny.
You and Paul have given me enough confidence to apply more force tomorrow. In my world there’s a fine line between being wimpy and being a gorilla !
Many thanks.
Pete
Hi Paul.
I’ve tried to separate the 2 units using mild pressure but didn’t want to break anything by pulling too hard. Based upon your comment I will try harder tomorrow!
Many thanks.
Pete.
I have an oil leak from my speedometer angle drive.
I was hoping to inspect and replace the seals if possible?
I have loosened the knurled nut which is between the angled drive and the speedometer drive but they seem difficult to separate. Can anyone help?
I have a oil leak from the J type overdrive fitted to my Vitesse and it seems to work perfectly.
I removed the filter plate to replace the gasket and found a “raw pin” in the position shown below. The pin is roughly 12.5x 5mm.
I don’t have any history on the overdrive fitment other than it was done by the previous owner who at the time told me it was a D type unit.
Does anyone have any idea where it should go?
Many thanks.
Pete.
Hi Gary. Really good to meet you and you father in law too.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it puts me at ease to hear from people that are far more knowledgeable with these subjects 👍.
I shall give CDD a ring to find out as much as I can before committing to the next step.
Best regards.
Pete
Hi ahebron.
Thank you your comments. I have read posts about rear driveshafts breaking - which worries me . I believe there is a CV driveshaft conversion which helps to overcome this issue Plus avoids the replacement of the donuts. I’ve seen a company called Classic car developments sell them but I’d like to find out which manufacturer is best and if any concerns have been identified when using them?
Hi JohnD. I am unable to select reverse. The case hardened plate which is used to prevent false reverse gear selection and is attached by 2 screws has broken. It’s so hard that I cannot drill and retap it . Not sure how to overcome this problem so am looking for a replacement.
Anyway….. Thank you for responding.
Any suggestions are welcome.
