  1. Offered the owner £30 starting price and it’s been accepted. Will pick it up over the weekend. Thank you. Pete.
  2. Hi Roger. In typical Pete fashion I was out when the auction ended but can see that it didn’t sale.
  3. Hi Roger. I’ll keep an eye on that one Thank you.
  4. 8121a451-9bd3-441c-8f65-818d265cff5d.mp4 Hi Colin. I have attached a video to show you the removal of the deflector. I hope this helps? The top screw holding the front black bracket to the car can be loosened and the bracket easily folded down or removed. Pete
  5. GrahamB. That’s useful to know. If drilling an 8mm hole through 10mm flat bar, is it necessary to drill stepped diameters of drill bit starting with a pilot drill? This might seem obvious to you but I haven’t used a pillar drill before. I have always used this method with my hand held drill but some YouTube videos show no use of pilot drills.
  6. Is it possible to take a photograph to share with the forum members?
  7. Graham C, PeteH.,JohnD. I will take a look at machine mart now. JohnD - thanks for the link👍
  8. PeteH. That’s good to know. From my point of view I thought it might have been a good idea….. I now stand corrected. Thank you for your advice.
  9. Wagger, rogerguzzi, Colin Lindsay, ahebron, Peter Truman, PeteH, JohnD. Thank you all for your suggestions and advice on this subject. I have read all responses with interest and at this moment I am continuing my search for a single phase pillar drill. Your support is appreciated.👍 Was considering reverse on the drill for the purpose of tapping holes.
  10. Piran. What make / part number seatbelt did you fit?
  11. ahebron. It looks like you have managed to sort out you lathe which seems to be running similarly to the pillar drill I have been looking at (forward / reverse, speed control etc). Unfortunately the chap selling the drill wants to keep his WEG VFD to fit on his new drill. He paid about £120 for his VFD and is unwilling to part with it. Thank you for posting! Pete.
  12. Johny and Kevin R. Good advice thank you. I was thinking along those lines but needed reassurance about the ease and efficiency of fitting a VFD. I guess I should continue my search for a single phase pillar drill. Can anyone recommend a good one which isn’t likely to stop whenever it faces a thick chunk of metal?
  13. I am looking for a good pillar drill. I have been offered one which is currently 3 phase but the seller is running it on a WEG VFD. He wants to keep the VFD and is suggesting that I buy a new one. Maybe a cheap Chinese one? I have no understanding about electricity . What do you think?
  14. Extending the column is probably a better description of the adjustment. When you extend the column it automatically raises the height/ clearance between knees to steering wheel. This is due to the angle of the column shaft.
  15. Drove the car for the first time today with the wind deflector fitted. It has made driving with the hood down at speed much more comfortable. Need to complete the hood stowage cover modification (have found material but needs cutting and stitching). It is easy to fit and remove and is easily stored in the boot when not in use.
  16. To conclude. After fitting new seat covers to the original seats, I still wanted more clearance between my legs and the steering wheel. I fitted MX5 seats and raised the steering column as suggested by Pete Lewis . What a difference! Totally transformed the comfort of the car . I now have a pair of recovered original seats in storage to keep the originality of the car. The photo also shows the fitment of seatbelt retainers from Paul H. Thanks Paul !
  17. As previously mentioned, I have gone with the Pete Lewis suggestion of using an MGB setup. Although a little bit fiddly I think the end result is good….. Thank you Pete.
  18. Here we are 4 months down the line and the trial carpets are finally fitted. To re-cap, I used Newton Commercial who agreed to trial a moulded carpet with a loop pile. The carpets are designed to fit a standard Vitesse but I have modified my gear lever gaiter by using an MGB boot as recommended by Pete Lewis👍 so a little bit of adjustment was required to get a reasonable fit. Overall, I am happy with the end product. Thanks to Pete Lewis for the gear-lever boot modification and JonJ1250 for suggesting that I should contact Newtons in the first place.
  19. That’s an excellent deal. Glad to see you are sorted!
  20. Looking for pride accessory ideas.
  21. Looking absolutely stunning. I will be using our vitesse for our daughters wedding end of September.
  22. I think you have 2 brackets missing. When I was looking for a pair of visors, I came across these brackets on EBay. Not sure how to copy a link so taken a shot.
  23. Pete and Johny. I had previously looked at the workshop manual and tightened the grub screw using a method described as “ Using a socket key tighten the grub screw by hand as much as possible without bending the wrench”. This leaves it a little bit open depending on the strength of the Allen key so I shall now re-torque it to 18-20lbft. Thank you both for your help.👍 Pete.
  24. Johny. I did read about it in the workshop manual but the section was about complete strip and reassembly so I wanted to reassure myself that my adjustment was suitable. Thank you for your help and advice. Pete.
  25. I have finally got around to adjusting my steering column to give me as much clearance between the steering wheel and my legs. I slackened the 4 nuts / bolts holding the steering column outer tube then slackened the lower clamp and nut with the grub screw in it. I then pulled both the inner and outer parts towards me as far as they would go - then retightened everything. My question is……. Does this adjustment sound safe or is the lower column shaft likely to separate from its lower section?
