  1. Hi Pete. I think you are right. Does this mean I have to remove the gearbox to refit a new pin? Pete
  2. Hi Colin. Thank you for the parts list- I am struggling to see a roll pin listed so at the moment the mystery continues.
  3. Hi johny. You and Paul have given me enough confidence to apply more force tomorrow. In my world there’s a fine line between being wimpy and being a gorilla ! Many thanks. Pete
  4. Hi Paul. I’ve tried to separate the 2 units using mild pressure but didn’t want to break anything by pulling too hard. Based upon your comment I will try harder tomorrow! Many thanks. Pete.
  5. I have an oil leak from my speedometer angle drive. I was hoping to inspect and replace the seals if possible? I have loosened the knurled nut which is between the angled drive and the speedometer drive but they seem difficult to separate. Can anyone help?
  6. I have a oil leak from the J type overdrive fitted to my Vitesse and it seems to work perfectly. I removed the filter plate to replace the gasket and found a “raw pin” in the position shown below. The pin is roughly 12.5x 5mm. I don’t have any history on the overdrive fitment other than it was done by the previous owner who at the time told me it was a D type unit. Does anyone have any idea where it should go? Many thanks. Pete.
  7. I usually ask for 2”x4”x 3600. The builders yard always know what I mean.
  8. Hi Paul. Thank you for the photos. That is really impressive! Probably beyond my sewing skills so am going to try Pete L’s MGB method. Pete.
  9. Brilliant! Thanks Pete. I have ordered the parts. Will look forward to the tinkering session!
  10. Colin and Josef. I have decided to go with Pete L method as an alternative. Thank you for your support. Pete.
  11. trigolf and Stratton Jimmer. Judged upon your comments, I shall probably go for the CDD ones. Many thanks. Pete.
  12. Hi Doug. No , there isn’t one in my car. Does it fit above the rubber or does the ring fit between the upper and lower lips of the rubber boot?
  13. Hi Gary. Really good to meet you and you father in law too. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it puts me at ease to hear from people that are far more knowledgeable with these subjects 👍. I shall give CDD a ring to find out as much as I can before committing to the next step. Best regards. Pete
  14. johny - thankyou for the update. 68 vitesse - any photos?
  15. I like that conversion. Thank you very much 👍
  16. Peter Truman. Brilliant. That has helped me a lot👍. Thank you for your time!
  17. Hi ahebron. Thank you your comments. I have read posts about rear driveshafts breaking - which worries me . I believe there is a CV driveshaft conversion which helps to overcome this issue Plus avoids the replacement of the donuts. I’ve seen a company called Classic car developments sell them but I’d like to find out which manufacturer is best and if any concerns have been identified when using them?
  18. Hello All. Can anybody recommend where to buy CV type driveshafts? Is there a choice? Which is best? Thank you. Pete.
  19. Hi JohnD. I am unable to select reverse. The case hardened plate which is used to prevent false reverse gear selection and is attached by 2 screws has broken. It’s so hard that I cannot drill and retap it . Not sure how to overcome this problem so am looking for a replacement. Anyway….. Thank you for responding. Any suggestions are welcome.
  20. Hi. I recently bought a new rubber gear lever boot for my Mk2 Vitesse. It keeps detaching itself from the original cardboard tunnel. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any ideas on how to overcome it? Is there some kind of retaining ring from another model that can be adapted ? Many thanks. Pete
  21. Looking for a remote linkage for Mk2 Vitesse with D type overdrive. I have scanned EBay but majority are for Spitfgire / Gt6. The only number I can see on my remote is “303283” Can anyone help? Thank you. Pete.
  22. Gary. If you manage to get hold of the 2 TR5s I’ll buy both off you now for £1,270 and I’ll give you an immediate profit by throwing an additional 10 Shillings and 6 pence at you! I Reckon we could round this deal up tomorrow at Silverstone!🤞 My old hacks back in the day included Mk1 Mini Cooper “S”. Mk 1 Lotus Cortina. Mk1 Escort. Datsun 240Z. Vauxhall Droopsnoot Sportshatch. Mk2 Vitesse. Mk1 Astra GTE. Amongst others. Like everyone else says “Hindsight is a wonderful thing”. I Will bring the cash with me tomorrow! Pete.
