  1. Stratton Jimmer and Josef. Thank you for your quick response. I will probably go belt and braces by using E5 plus the additive for peace of mind on the maiden journey home of 200 miles.
  2. Hello All. I am planning to pick up our new (to us😀) Mk2 Vitesse tomorrow. I have bought some VSPE in preparation for the journey home. Which fuel do I need to use with it, E5 or E10? Sorry if this seems a silly question but I have no previous experience with a 50year old car.
  3. Euan. I haven’t taken the classic insurance out yet, not sure who to go with. I will check companies out tomorrow. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you. Pete
  4. Pete H. From Sussex to Worcestershire. Hopefully won’t need either of the breakdown services but am signed up with them just in case🤞
  5. Hi Colin. That’s given me more confidence. I will check and top up fluids and pressures as you have suggested. Eye’s will be scanning the gauges and ears peeled for any abnormal sounds. I reckon if no abnormalities occur after a few miles I shall relax and enjoy the steady plod home.
  6. Hi Gary, We are picking it up this Friday coming. Can’t wait. Will let you know how we get on.
  7. Although I’d be extremely annoyed with myself for dropping it in there, I don’t think it will do any harm. My logic is based upon two of the laws of physics. 1 being centrifugal force, so it’s likely to get thrown away from the clutch assembly. 2 being gravity so after it’s ejected out towards the bell housing it’s likely to drop to the bottom of it. If by any chance it was able to get lodged between the flywheel ring gear and the bell housing I reckon it would last about a millisecond. I personally wouldn’t worry too much about it.
  8. Welcome. As a new member myself there’s very little I can offer apart from a big HELLO!
  9. Ha. Seems like I’ve unknowingly opened a can of worms here. Jeffds1360 it already has one fitted. I think it would be a whole lot of work to remove it and reposition the battery for No gain ?
  10. So many options for the servo positioning. Gary - I guess the chance of finding a Girling power stop will be remote? I particularly like the Pete Lewis option. Once I get to know the car I might think about moving the battery back to the engine compartment. Some great looking engine bays there 👍
  11. Johny. During initial inspection the battery was very secure and strapped down firmly. I will do an in depth inspection of it when I collect the car next week. chrishawley. Fantastic information- just what I need to help understand if it’s ok or not. The link to the AES site was also very helpful. dougbgt6. The brakes felt absolutely fine. Once I collect the car I’ll be able to test them more thoroughly. Thanks all for your help.
  12. Battery is definitely in the boot. Can anyone tell me how Ican judge if the cable is the correct size? Yes, I will be spending an awful lot of time learning about the good and bad points on the car and probably even more time trying to sort it out. One of my first jobs will be to inspect the fuel lines and find out what changes need to be made for E10 /E5 fuel. Previous owner was lucky to live in an area where 4star was being imported until very recently.
  13. Just to say hello to all in the club. I have posted a few times and have received loads of help Thankyou. We have become the new owners of a Mk2 Vitesse convertible and are looking forward to driving it!
  14. I’m hoping to get “the smile “ next week on our journey home. It’s only 200miles which might seem a bit risky in a 50+yr old car that I’m not familiar with but hey ho it will add to the excitement!
  15. Hi Gary. We have just returned from a 7.5 hr / 400 mile round journey to look at the white one that was advertised in the club classified section. I am pleased to say we are now the proud owners of it. We had previously looked at the Valencia blue one as advertised on EBay and was also a 6hr round trip. I was extremely disappointed in it and could go On and On about its condition. Needless to say- I now understand why it hasn’t sold despite being advertised for a while.
  16. Gary. We viewed the Valencia blue on Friday and are viewing a white one tomorrow. I will give feedback on both cars shortly. Josef. I agree, you can get a massive variation in colour match from one tin to another. As I have never owned a Valencia blue car, I couldn’t tell whether it was the right shade or not. I don’t think an exact colour match on the underside of your car is anything to worry about…… unless you’re a hedgehog crossing the road 😀
  17. How does the length of your new hoses compare with your old ones?
  18. Johny. That’s a great help. I now understand why there’s a difference in RPM at a set speed between each variant. Thank you. 👍
  19. Hello . Does the Mk2 Vitesse Overdrive and Non Overdrive cars have the same ratio differential unit fitted? In not, can anyone tell me what the ratios are for each variant? Pete
  20. Gary. I agree, that is an absolutely beautiful herald but I prefer the Vitesse. Thank you for spending your time and effort in helping me with my search 👍
  21. That makes perfect sense! Knowing my luck, my guess would be the tub has been set too far back👍
  22. Pete H. I believe it’s Valencia blue but like Clive says it could look different due to lighting angle, camera setting or monitor. Clive. I think the gaps are far better on the one I’m viewing tomorrow. To be honest, the black one looks “too good” to me and seems to have lost some character if that makes sense ? Plus the fact that the gaps aren’t as good as I would expect puts me off slightly.
  23. Clive and Gary. The black one may be worth a look in the future but I agree with Johny- the bonnet gaps do look large! Gary. I have contacted the owner of the Valencia blue one and will be doing a 6hr round trip tomorrow to view it. Pete. Yes, the white one looks good but I can only see one photo of it and am unable to contact the owner. I have paid my fees today but cannot see the owners contact details. I have left a message with the club explaining my difficulty so hopefully Lisa will be able to help me tomorrow. All. Thank you for your responses and help. Pete.
