  1. Thank you Clive if you can speak to your friend about how he completed that part of the job. Graham
  2. Hello All Thank you for the great feed back, given me plenty to think about. Sorry some of my terms may have been incorrect but I believe you have understood. So basically: Prop shaft has to be shorten. My replacement one is a sliding one so this will be interesting to see if Johny is correct. 1850 clutch kit will fit. Support bracket will need altering. Bell housing needs to be alter to accept single rail remote. Now fortunately I have the 1850 bell housing fitted to the replacement gearbox box, another thought was to have that part of the 1850 grafted/ welded into the GT6 bell housing. Both aluminium. I assume the critical thing is to ensuring the selector shaft fits and has full movement. I assume the closed hole is to stop oil reaching the clutch I assume no seal is fitted. The above will allow the gearbox to be fitted, The diff is another interesting subject, did not realise the GT 6 did come with that option. So that will drive the car and see. Thanks again for the advice, any more will be greatly welcome. Graham
  3. Hello Nick Thanks for the reply, I am planning on fitting a OD prop shaft, rear support and chassis bracket. Hopefully that will resolve the issue around length difference. The bell housing mod is the interesting part, initial thoughts are to drill through the original housing and then have a plate fitted/ welded on the inside if room. Thinking of this route as I have never 're built a gear box before and time. The diff I am changing as my current one is a non OD ratio one, so will change to an OD ratio one. Nick you did not mention the main shaft so I assume this is not a problem? Thanks again for the advice. Graham
  4. Hello I have obtained a 1850 Dolly Single rail gearbox with a j type OD to replace a 3 rail non OD gearbox. Besides prop shaft, rear support plate, OD support, 90 elbow driver, diff and needing a Dolly friction clutch (fine splinters type) have I missed anything. I am aware the GT6 bell housing needs altering to fit the selector shaft extending passed the gearbox, so have I missed anything like the main shaft spigot being a different size. With the clutch planning on use the dolly friction plate with the GT6 clutch drive plate and clutch bearing, no sure if the dolly 1850 clutch parts will fit the GT6? Will I also have problems with the Speedo miss reading as well? Graham
  5. Sorry I will object, any way if you stuck me to the door you will never shut it Graham
  6. Hello Karl I have spent the last week reading through your restoration, it is very impressive. I hope you do not mind me saying but the welding from where you started is now very impressive. The work you are putting in is a credit to you and I hope you are enjoying it. In addition the time spent doing the forum. Keep going Graham
  7. Finally fitted all 4 studs, had to take spring out. Checked the alignment of the plates, box on the spare diff all OK. Cleaned out threads on the diff in the car. All four stud were screwed in the threads. Refitted spring, refitted three studs and fourth stud would not fit. Strangely this was in a different hole and it was the same stud. Clue here checked stud and found slight wear where the a spring leaf had rub it. Lifted spring up, so it slide up the studs and this gave the 4th stud a but of room, and managed to screw it in. Knocked the spring down. Screwed all the studs down. So it appear on of the stud may have had a very slight bend in it which would not allow it the centre it in the hole when the spring was in position. So moral of the story it may not be the spring but the stud. If one does fit it may be slightly bent. Hopefully this may be of help to someone in the future. Graham
  8. Hello Wayne Thanks for the advice, will try. The bottom plate is very tight between the bottom and second leaf. I will loosen off the studs and try. If that does not work I will take the spring out again and realign or even drill the holes out a bit more. Not happy to run with 3 studs fixing the spring in place. Graham
  9. Hello Returning to the forum following a break, replaced the rear spring on a spit 1500 yesterday. Not as easy as doing it years ago! Main problem I had purchased an original unused spring so had to build up the central box, I used an old diff as a jig to position the box an bottom plat to align the stud holes with the diff. Spring in car 3 studs fitted but the 4th front stud will not even screw in to the diff as if the hole not aligned. Any suggestions to resolve, the bottom plate is held tight in the spring? The stud has dropped down onto the diff. Spring now all tighten to move car into garage but with only the 3 studs being left slightly loose, thinking of driving car a short distance to seee if things realign. Any thoughts? Graham
