  1. Talking about trusting people, last weekend the person next to me In the office had arranged with his mates to go to Butlin' s for an 80's 3 day event, very proud there would be 3000 to 6000 people. Note: football matches were being closed down that weekend. Guess what, came back into the office on Tuesday. Thursday night sent an E mail in to say he had high temp, difficulty breathing and interesting a random nose bleed. Also turns out on Thursday morning had not felt well but still came in. Fortunately I only had to go in on Friday when I was asked to change desks at 1.30. 5 days later I am still clear. You can't trust people. Graham
  2. Work from home instead of the office, my manager has managed to set his computer same time message system to show when we are on or off line. So no wandering off to the garage for me. Graham
  3. Polished grinder and rocker cover both very impressive. Interesting extension for the polished. Graham
  4. I have always used grease on the rocker cover and on the gasket surface that contacts the engine. Enables you to remove the gasket/rocker cover more easily without damaging the gasket, if you are careful. Graham
  5. Yes I fully agree HQ are being sensible. Trying times. Graham
  6. Interesting electrics and relay on chassis. Graham
  7. Concrete floor, you must tell? Graham
  8. Colin, the bolt you have in the picture looks like those that are used to repair saucepans. Possibly not many around now. Graham
  9. I agree but dam that spell checker Graham
  10. Yes, I have come across the same problem. Two years ago removed clutch and brake M/ C brackets and repainted the bulkhead. Replaced petrol rubber pipe that year then last year started the car and petrol sprayed back out of one of the pipes onto the bulk head and removed the paint very quickly. Water based spray paints and ethanol petrol do not mix, never had this before. The old spray can paints did not react with petrol so must be modern day components. For the valence can you get away with Hammerstein. I will quickly hide now for other to complain about Hammerstein. Graham
  11. May be worth having a note about when disconnection the carb fuel line to be careful about fuel getting on to a hot exhaust pipe. A very good list. The list assume an engine stoppage. What about a noise list relate to gearbox / clutch. rubbling rear overbearing, May be this list can be aimed at - can you get home with the problem. Stuck starter motor, solenoid clicking, engine not turning over, hit stated motor with hammer. Alternator failure resulting in a flat battery. Loose drive belt. Graham
  12. Amazing work, the quality looks excellent. Graham
  13. Very impressive. Looks a lot of careful work and setting up.well done in carrying the grain though on the glove compartment flap. Well done . Graham
  14. Colin You could have got in contact with me, this company is just a mile from where I work I could have got them and then in the post. May have been cheaper. Graham
  15. When I replaced my front chassis member I used the diagram in the works manual for the correct measurements. Graham
  16. For clips, car fastening of all types try Bresco Vehicle services, www.bresco.com. They are based in Loughborough Leicester. I visited they store and they stock every clip possible. I needed a clip for a modern but the main dealer could not help, total useless. Went to Bresco no problem, even tried it before I brought the clip. I just walked around recognising clip after clip, that I have been keeping second hand ones just in case. Graham
  17. Pete, sometimes I like to try the difficult just to see it can be done If it fails then at least I tried. Not much lost, except people telling you I told you so, but at least I attempted it. At the weekend I will disconnect my current cable and see if I can get it connected with the right curve, yes may it will not work but at least I have not lost anything but learnt to follow the advice of my elders. Graham
  18. Hello Ideally I would like to route the cable as it was intended without the angle drive (now) so hence the interest in the longer cable. At the week end I will have a look at this routing and work out the length required and get pictures of the terminals to ensure the cable being offered are the same. I assume the critical area of running a longer cable inside the tunnel would be the radius of the curve of the cable connecting to the gearbox. I will update at the weekend. Cheers all for the help, I will put the big hammer away for now, chasis bending off the table for now. My original intention was to do this change with out changing the chassis so I am please I can connect the cable without the angle drive. On the sunday when I canme across the problem I was annoyed I had not thought this part through fully and came unstuck. Graham
  19. I came across an article where companies are thinking of mining the sea bed for precious materials for electric batteries for electric cars. These metals basically are lying around on the sea bed and the machines gather them up. The problem is these tracked vehicles stir up the sea bed and destroy the environment and sea creatures. These sea creatures are the bottom of the food chain. You now the rest. However we have environmentally friendly cars. Progress, as we know electric cars will save the world. Electric Disco 3 towing a horse box with 2 tonnes of horse meat and 1 ton trailer equates to long extension lead. Graham
  20. Hello Non member I would be interested however could you tell me what the length is so I can check it. How much do you want for it. You can PM me that Thanks for the offer. Graham
  21. Thank you for the advice, will look into connecting the cable directly. Actually lengthening the cable may not be a problem as I have a company local who could do this , called Speedograph. Cheers all for the advice. Graham
  22. Hello Johny Sorry to disappoint you but since getting the box in June I am afraid nothing has progressed, the main problem has been the 90 degree angle drive which feeds the Speedo. The problem has been with the box being further back the angle drive is fouling the chassis. As I had not fitted it prior to installing, thinking as no one had mentioned it then No problem, so come a Sunday thinking just connect it then done. A couple of hours of frustration of hammering the chassis I put the car away to pick up on other projects. The stupid thing we are only talking about a few mm, but with the box and OD being in its hard to get a angle grinder in. The advantages and disadvantages of a project car, when I did run the car down the road and around the block I was impressed so not a waste of time. Drkai modded Gt6 has a good picture of the chassis alteration that I need to do, that if I can't alter the flange of the rail by 1/2 inch down. As I need to work outside the garage I am waiting for warmer weather. I believe it will be a positive change. In addition the cable from the drive will need extending . Will update when completed. Thanks for asking. Graham
  23. Hello Thank you for all your kind messages, been sorting the house out slowly. Dog towels may go to the vets. Food into a pet collection point. Numerous dog toys to the RSPA, once washed. We had a clear out last year but still have a lot. Only one to be kept, a toy rabbit that came with him as a puppy, Always in his bed never played with just laid on or kick out. We have been expecting this event for some time due to his age and back legs getting weaker bit still tough. At present not thinking of another dog yet., we have spoken about this, but not yet. Just getting use to an empty house. Again thank you, just give your pets an extra treat, they deserve it. Graham
  24. Yes they do get under your skin and Derek and Colin you are correct they are part of the family. On Monday I collected some tablets for him and asked to pay for putting him to sleep it cut deep. I was attempting to make it easier. So today when my wife phoned me at work to tell me he was not good, I phoned the vet it was hard and numerous deep breathes I managed to book the appointment. They gave me a 30 min slot to ensure it was handled correctly and well. When we arrived and I ensured all was well before I carried in Chase it was hard. The vet said the same as you Colin they are family. He said nothing is wrong with showing being upset actually he gets upset if people are not upset as they do not care for their pet. After Chase was put to sleep the vet and his nurse left the room to let us be with him, totally different to 40 years ago. It was really lovely. Afterwards I felt a calm uppon me after the stresses of the last two week, which help with it all. Today I was fortunate that the family agreed with the decision, it was nice that late last night I took Chase for a walk with my daughter, my daughter and I took Chase for his first walk so it seemed complete. As I said early we have been going to this vet for 14 years a small one man band, working against the the tide of corporate vet firms. You may have to put up with his straight talking but he cares, that is more Important than my feelings when we both have a common interest in Chase. We started dry Jan have done well to date but to night we failed, it is hard when walking around the house doing thing differently and missing something. Thank you reading this but sometimes it is good to talk. Graham
  25. Today I had to take my Labrador to the vet for the final time. 14 years ago I carried him in for the first time now for the last time I carried him in. He was lucky that he had been treated/ seen by the same vet all that time. Reminded every time by the vet of when eat two flat balls which upset his stomach. He has sat outside with me when working on cars, until he got bored. When washing cars until I got the hose out. Then back inside. However come 9.15 in the evening where's my 10.00 walk. Never got his watch corrected. When loading the dishwasher having to beat back the nose sniffing around. Hearing the cry from the good lady when cooking or serving up a meal that the dog is in her way. However gone is that dog who greeted me every day when returning home from work. OK he was only after a treat. However good bye good friend and thank for being in my life. Graham
