Gentryman
I'm restoring a kit car based a Vitesse. The column light switch has three positions and four wires. What I don't understand is the brown wire is only about 5 amps yet it powers all the lights. Is this correct? The other wires are more substantial. Thanks for any input. johny
Looking at the free to download workshop manual the brown is the supply to the flash which as you say powers all four headlights high beams but only momentarily so I guess Triumph got away with a smaller wire.... NonMember
8 hours ago, Gentryman said: the brown wire is only about 5 amps How are you assessing that? As Johny says, it's only used for brief moments. Wires are rated for continuous steady current when warm - because the current causes heating and it's the heat that does for it. If it's only used for a few seconds at a time, the full 15A won't get it very hot. Also, even the smallest wires on a Triumph loom have enough copper that they would be 14A rated under some conditions.
