Lance Smith Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 There are cracks in both B posts of my Herald convertible emanating from the rear seat pan level. See pics. Is there a recommended procedure for fixing these cracks? Is there a repair patch kit? I am installing a new carpet kit, so now is the time to fix this. I imagine welding a strap of steel across the crack as a repair.
ahebron Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 First off would be to drill the end of the cracks to stop them spreading. Has it been tweaked for tub spread in the past? I cracked my saloon body where the top deck meets the rear guard rh after tweaking
KevinR Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 As Adrian says, drill a hole at the end of each crack to "arrest" them. Then I would weld them (leaving the hole) ensuring good penetration of the weld. 1
Lance Smith Posted August 24, 2022 Author Report Posted August 24, 2022 I welded the crack closed and the welded a 0.060" thick patch over the top. I faired in the transition with plastic body filler and painted the surface. time to fit the new carpets. 1
