alan.gilbert_6384 Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 Hi All, So i have tried to find this before bothering the great and good on the forum, but have failed miserably. I brought a clutch master cylinder replacement kit (the correct one for 1977 spitfire 1500) and have a mysterious spare seal. When I dismantled it this seal was no where to be seen, although it is detailed in both the WSM and the bible Haynes. Please see pictures, it the one shown as in front of the piston item number 13 from haynes and also shown in WSM picture. I can not find where this little bugger goes, there does not seem to be any registers for it, can any one enlighten me, thanks very much.
Pete Lewis Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 its nothing to do with the hydraulics .it wrong side of the workings maybe some anti rattle rubber to support the pushrod when its in a free state cant see what it does or make any sense of the reason Pete
Colin Lindsay Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 It's obsolete in later cylinders... but probably included by the manufacturers just in case. Known as an 'end seal'.
Pete Lewis Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 aha now i remember that rings a bell , thanks Colin needs a memory jog these days of long forgotten things so the piston may or may not have the secondary seal groove depends on its age but you dont want it anyway Pete
