Sandy Gibson Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 I just fitted a new rad and took the car out for a spin. Too late I noticed a dimple had appeared on the bonnet. Realised that the screw on the top radiator hose clip had been in contact with the underside of the bonnet and caused the damage (see pics). It never occurred to me that this clip was as close to the bonnet as that so be aware! Turn the clip with the screw side down! Maybe see if I can also adjust bonnet hinge to increase clearance. 1
Anglefire Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 I’ve noticed the same issue with the radiator cap - I have one with a lift up relief valve and just touches the bonnet under some circumstances. took ages to realised what the small dimple was caused by.
johny Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 Unfortunately with your semi open cooling system, unlike moderns, the radiator has to be mounted as high as possible to ensure the heater is full...
Mark B Posted September 3, 2022 Report Posted September 3, 2022 Reminds me of when I took out RAC membership in the 80's. Nice new blue and silver grill badge. Out on a drive I notice the temps rising and pulled onto a garage forecourt. Lots of hissing and large puddle of water under the rad. Then I realised I should have cut down the log threaded stud on the new grill badge, as on closing the bonnet it had speared through the radiator. Rad is suprisingly close to the front grill and underside of the bonnet. Refilled with water enough to get home, no RAC needed.
