fungus
Found this letter while going through an old box file I used to keep for our area events back in the early eightys I had an Idea that I could buy one while I was over there with the national federation of fishmongers training initiative they were going to run in that part of the world, but unfortunately nothing came of it due to "unrest" apparently. Interesting to know when production stopped though. also like the STAMPRO bit on the triumph badge.
Colin Lindsay
Bill Davies was always the expert on Standard Gazels and the other Indian variations. I had some great correspondence with an Indian owner back in the 1990s, he sent me a lot of interesting stuff on them.
PeteH
To Me, It looks vaugely as if the Body shape is that of a Herald. But with 4 doors?. Co-incidently, During March/May 1976. I was on a Vessel trading the Indian coastal ports including Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras. What I remember Most was the vast numbers of "Hindustans" as Taxi`s. Local made/asembled Morris MO`s, I believe.? Pete
Colin Lindsay
4 door, yes, due to the fact that to retain their modesty Indian ladies cannot clamber into the rear seat through the front door. Hence they needed four doors. Loosely based on Heralds but in many areas unrecognisable to any Herald owner. There is actually a Standard Herald, as opposed to a Gazel in the photo below.
fungus
This was as close as I got to getting a Standard Herald a reworked vitesse, on the under side it has "triumph vitesse" and the dinky toys bit has been bashed flat but you can make out the nky toys bit. also the number 134 which was the number for the dinky Vitesse.
