Any tips on clamping coolent hoses?

I use self amalgamating tape, to waterproof external wiring connections, brilliant stuff BUT It`s an absolute ball ache to get it back off if you need to. Usually involving careful use of the Stanley knife or Box cutter. I can see the benefit if you have real issues on old pipework?. But on a new installation I would be looking elsewhere for the answer?. I have some in all my "carry kits" for emergency repairs?, it`s hard to beat as a "get you home" on (say) a split hose.

Surely, SURELY you dont have to stick the hose to the pipe to achieve that!

No.    You provide a smooth surface on the, often pitted by corrosion, nozzle for the smooth internal surface of the hose.    The alternative, as Pete says, of filling and filing, is labourious and time consuming.   If, as the ads for - is it train tickets? - you like complicated, fine.
