Alternator advice

Can anyone advise me what size solder iron  I need to desolder the stator loom wires from the rectifier on this spitfire 1500 alternator? (See photos)

I’ve tried my 40w draper iron and nothing happens after about 30 seconds, it doesn’t seem to want to melt even though it’s at full power setting!

Im hoping to replace the rectifier and regulator but need to remove the old ones (which look pretty corroded) first.

thanks for any advice

As the rectifiers had it you can just cut its connections which should make it easier to desolder. Of course then youve still got to connect the new rectifier but at least you can tin that with solder first...

on recon alternators we had some good experience of when a diode had failed they just cut the wire to that diode

reduced the output ability but the warning lamps stayed off ...nice box, crap inside it

wonderful !!!!!!
