GFL Posted October 1 Report Share Posted October 1 I've just received an E-Mail stating that Private Sales are now free of charges off E-Bay🙂 I've not read all the small print as yet and I don't really sell a lot of stuff via E-Bay, more buying the odd item, but this sounds like great news. Colin Lindsay Posted October 1 Report Share Posted October 1 I've just read that and can't find any catch; free to sell but do you keep 100% of the proceeds? eBay also retain the money as a form of credit, you can request it transferred to your bank otherwise just use it as eBay credit, same as Paypal used to do years ago. I've been selling stuff when the '80% off' offers came out so might just crack on with a few things now to fund my purchase of wings and wheelarches for the 13/60 bonnet rebuild. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
johny Posted October 1 Report Share Posted October 1 seems too good to be true especially from them! Is the charge added on the price and the buyer pays perhaps? As Colin says they now hold your money so maybe they hope youre going to spend any sales income with them on items from a business seller who does pay charges... Trying to unload a set of triple Webers and a fast road head and cam I have but I won`t pay the listing fees they want and don`t want to list with a low start. Josef Posted October 2 Report Share Posted October 2 They’ve clearly been squeezed by apps like Vinted. They don’t charge sellers. EBay made clothes sales free for private sellers a few months back which I’d say was directly cause of Vinted, who now seem to be moving in to the market of non clothing items. Follows that eBay are worried about the competition. The important bit of the change eBay are making is that they are no longer auto paying out, you have to go withdraw it manually after you sell (again copying Vinted’s practice). So I expect they’re making money / planning to by the interest on your sale proceeds, and presumably relying on the fact enough people won’t withdraw fast or regularly. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Like a lots of private sellers, I only sell when given the seller discount, that must reflect in their sales, along with the competition have forced their hand. Selling is way down; I've noticed that there are very few sellers selling Herald parts these days and those that are have the same junk relisted again and again, often for months now. Very few new sellers of interesting or rare parts like there used to be and I was always wondering where they were selling nowadays. I think the excessive fees drove a lot of people away. I too only sold when the 80% offer appeared but the reappearance of 'credit' has appealed to me - I used to sell until I had reached a target goal on Paypal, then just spend that Paypal credit on the item I was wanting.
