OK can someone please tell me the facts off.

1)Pros and cons of Normal brake flexi hoses

2)Pros and cons of Stainless steel braded hoses

3)Pros and cons of black braded hoses

want to replace all four on my Herald but I am totally confused. I realise braded costs are higher but you get what you pay for My main questions are

Will braded last longer?

Is the pedal feel under braking improved?

can you clamp braded hoses with our damage to them?

Regard

Andrew

Hello Andrew.

Have a look at this very recent thread - some of your questions will be covered via that:

Flexible hose manufacturing dates?

Regards.

the sleeving on braided can be in various colours from clear to black,  black sleeves were introduced to replicate a classic look and less bling

in my view no hoses should be clamped ,  on rubbers you can collapse the reinforcing and wreck a good hose

never ever clamp a braided hose

as braided dont expand under pressure there is some improved feel to the pedal

basic rubber hoses as normally fitted work perfectly well and have done for years without much problem.

if you use rubber get a set from a brand rather than a cheapo,

some  modern suppliers rubber is not always what its said to be

I have purchased my s/s hoses, plus numerous other items, through this Ebay seller.

Decent prices, excellent quality and a very helpful seller.

The hoses he supplies are Goodridge.

Eg; Ebay 370625148175

Hello to all in this thread

You have convinced me to go for normal black flexi hoses, reasons being

1) I want to keep the car as original as possible

2) as you state never clamp a branded hose and you never know in the future when you might need to do this

3) and my brake pedal is good now so if branded is only marginal improvement can not see the point in changing.

Thanks to every one who helped me out with my decision

Regards

Andrew
