Hot coil

Has any one moved their ignition coil to the bulkhead. Mine is getting very hot bolted to the block on a vitesse. It failed today but came back to life after 10 minutes when it had cooled down.

They have worked well for many years bolted to the block on all 6 cyl engines , if its failing hot then there is a fault,

any green in the ht port, is it wired correct polarity, what ever the battery earth must be the polarity to the dizzy,

is it the correct resistance

12v are 3 ohm balasted are 1.5 ohm

 

fit a 1.5 to a non ballasted system and they get very hot and you double the current used blow points and have excesssive high HT which blows rotors .

Been driving my Vitesse CV for years with the coil bolted to the block, never been a problem. Not even in the unseasonable weather we are having, shouldn't it be raining in an English summer?.

Bolting an electrical component to a cylinder block where it must see a high temperature is I would have thought an odd thing to do. The Spitfire mounting on the scuttle seems a much more sensible place to put it.

I relocated mine to the bulkhead a few years ago when doing some renovations. But that was purely a preventative measure I didn't have any problems, just seemed an unnecessary risk to me.
