New battery

Hi all

probably another silly question but I have a brand new Yaris battery doing nothing in the garage

 

same size, just 440a rather than 420a. Is that ok or will things start to fry?

If it fits it will be fine. 

There are pretty much only 3 things regarding batteries. 

Voltage

 CCA (cold cranking amps)

capacity. 

As long as the voltage is right (nominally 12v ) then it will fry nothing. If the cca is too low then it can struggle to turn the engine over - but tbh with petrol classics it’s not that relevant as they don’t need much to turn over.

Capacity is again almost irrelevant as that is just the ability to have some storage for multiple starts etc. And largely governed by the physical size of the thing.

Actually, I've just looked more closely - and the biggest thing to worry about is getting the wiring to fit - the posts look to be the other way around!

The blue one would be the better fit, -ve to the earth strap, so battery posts nearest the bulk head. The red one would have to be mounted the other way round posts at the front, problem then is the battery clamp shorting the posts.

My battery is posts to the outside - not had an issue - and in fact having posts to the bulk head would concern me with the clamp shorting the battery out?

Or does the clamp go the other way?

Yes, clamp on the front. Never considered you could put it on the back. Is it stable? I suppose yes, if you've done it. You can fail the MOT for no battery clamp.

It was like that when I bought it nearly 2 years ago. Never have it a thought tbh. But seems secure enough ?

But it might explain why the rubber trim on the mud guard is missing and when fitted clatters the battery cables. ?
