Spitfire Fuel Pipe Size

Newbie here, apologies if this has already been covered but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Can anyone please tell me what diameter the fuel pipe should be for a '78 Spitfire from tank to pump? I need to replace mine and currently it has some kind of bride of frankenstein effort comprising 6mm red plastic pipe (external diameter) with what can only be described as garden hose pipe jubilee clipped to either end.

the bigger the better,    but most tank to carbs appears to be 5/16"   8mm

the least connections is always better

and  if you can use nylon from tank direct to pump you elliminate a load of hose joiners 

the link pipe between carbs is 6mm   1/4"

Spitfires were 1/4, but 6mm will be absolutely ideal. Make sure you get fuel hoses to r9 spec, from a proper known seller, lots of fake stuff about.

Thanks Clive, I've had a mooch about (and been warned off buying anything from ebay although I suspect it's not all unbranded rubbish!), stupid question time but I just want to confirm before I buy the wrong thing, are these dimensions internal bore or external diameter. Sorry to be a pain!

The metal pipe is external, the rubber hose internal. So buy 6mm of each.

I recently re-piped my Toledo. Bought a roll of copper from Screwfix for much less than the usual suspects, still used less than half. But that was 8mm, not sure if they sell 6mm
