Gadgetman
Afternoon all. Can you take a overdrive unit and plate off of a 1600 gearbox and transplant it onto a later 2ltr non- od box? i assume I’d have to replace the mainshaft as well?? Clive
I don't think so, I believe the mainshafts are different between the 1600 (3 synchro) and the later boxes. And yes, you need an overdrive mainshaft (and don't forget the drive for the OD pump!)
Pete Lewis
without a pair in front of me the tail end is pretty much the same across the range its unlikely the rear cover drilling vary from 3 to 4 sync. from the parts manual both use the same adaptor plate 1600 and 2litr 4sync use 305137 the base D Type does have a number change 1600 306553 2ltr 307862 this may just be evolution im sure a call to dave twigger at http://www.odspares.com/ im sure he will have some definitive data but as far as i know it should be ok, the mainshaft tail spigots are the same and the small sprung clip is used on both Pete
Clive
Pete, rimmers has this https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-204679 for 3 synchro gearbox and this https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-TKC923 for the 2 litre. Implication is it is a different beast. Saying that, a new mainshaft is not a bad idea anyway........
Pete Lewis
Yes the 3 sync 4sync mainshafts are very different inside the box but the bit sticking out the back that enters the OD is the same Pete
