rolyberkin
I have stripped a wooden steering wheel and it is now much lighter than the dash. Can anyone advise of a stain/wax with a similar colour to the original dash colour please?
thescrapman
It may well Darken down a bit whe you start to put varnish back on the wheel.
Colin Lindsay
Don't go by those colour samples in places like B&Q, the stuff that comes out of the tin is nowhere near! I used to use a lot of Ronseal Wood Dye, Indian rosewood was a good match for what others called mahogany. Post a pic and we might be able to suggest a match? I treated it with just wax but far too light, will post a picture of the dash when I get home.
Mad4classics
It's difficult to get an exact match unless you're doing all the wood at the same time. And you'll probably need to remove any wax you've applied to get stain and varnish / laquer to take. I use a water based Walnut stain to restore the color on my sun bleached dash after stripping it. Required a few applications to get the right color depth; allowing each to dry. I intend to do the same on the steering wheel eventually. As @thescrapman said; keep in mind that the laquer / varnish coats will take it a shade darker. David
