I know its a popular conversion but what exhaust do people use for a 1500 engine with tubular exhaust manifold in a Herald?

I have a mix of pipes and silencer (unknown make) it works but is a bit loud and would like something quieter.

cheers

Canleys sold the extractor manifold with a mk2 vitesse exhaust. Their std vitesse system has a larger outlet on the box and is a bit louder (I know, I had one) than the ordinary vitesse box. No reason why you can't use a 13/60 system with an adapter/reducer pipe from the manifold, should be quieter. But consider the vitesse system.....

Definately do not use a "twin sports" jobbie. I put one on my recently (sorta) finished spitfire. Noisy, and unless you enjoy the attention, would not recommend. I am thinking of putting a different rear box on, previously used one of an escort rs turbo.....

I think I must have the worlds only "reasonably quiet" twin pipe jobbie.... Must have been stuffing them a bit tighter that day... :-)

First step in tuning any Triumph 4 cylinder is removing the restrictive standard exhaust system. The extractor manifold is the first priority, as the standard ironmongery is a boat anchor. I used the Canley Classics stainless 4 branch manifold with their stainless vitesse system, and it flows nicely with a nice rorty note, without being too loud. I am not sure how restrictive, if at all, a 13/60 system would be, given that we are talking about an extra 200cc and one box.

I have two issues with the twin pipe systems. First, most of them are way too loud for my taste, and would really get on my wick after a while, and secondly, they have been overtaken by our stupid local councils indescriminately strewing our roads with speed humps and pillows, for which the twin pipe systems are just too low. Even with my Vitesse system, I have had to take care to hang the system as high as I can get it, and have a small cut-out in the rear valance and a couple of custom made fittings to ensure everything is out of the way. Even so, I steer between speed pillows whenever I can.

Thanks guys.

next question what's the different between standard, semi sports and full sports systems (as per TSSC web site)? No pictures so don't know what the difference is....

Will phone the shop to ask but would appreciate people comments experiences.

Cheers

standard is just that. As original. Semi sports have a louder box (if going this route save the hassle and get the std canleys mk2 vitesse version which mates to a 4 branch manifold) Full sports is the "wheelbarrow" system, rather loud and can be tricky to get high enough on a herald/vitesse.
