Ampman
Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and would like to find out some specifics about my own Triumph TR6. i bought my car in March 1990, and was 21 at the time. I ran it for a few years and park it up. Last year I decided to do a restoration on her which is going well. The car was built on the 25th November 1972. And registered in March 1973 . 1.Should it have an A type overdrive? 2. Should it have a a non reassessed block. Engine No CR O238 Chassis No CR 00239 Body tags. T 17 CR 36 CR Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Clive
Odd to have been built on Christmas Day? Wouldn't think the unions would have allowed that. No expert, but sounds like an early cr engined car (with the 125bhp engine) as think the earlier cars were the 150bhp/CP engines. I believe they changed to j type of around the same time (probably a stronger unit, and wastes less power) You are more likely to get more comprehensive answers from the TRR? Pete Lewis
If it has recessed block for supporting the fire rings then it will have a tag sticking out the rear face of the head gasket This is a common ID used on all triumph recessed blocks no tag not recessed Rimmers give good clues on chassis numbers and A type J type Pete
thescrapman
The engine number is wrong I believe. CR denotes a big saloon Mk1 PI engine when that low, nor should it have a preceding zero possibly A CR TR would be CR5xxxx I think. Mk1 PI block is early non-recessed and a different casting, easily spotted, and one of the best engines as made to a better quality before the bean counters got hold. dont think the chassis number should havepreceeding zero either. Didn't when up near CR950 area. All CR TR6 are j-type gearbox
Clive
Do you have a heritiage certificate? That may be helpful as will have the correct commission and engine numbers when built.
Ampman
This is the H/C from year ago.So it’s the right chassis against the commission number And I’ve read that the first 500 or so had A type overdrives? Can’t remember where I’ve seen that though. Any more thoughts. Regards .
