brake shoe grease

When fitting brake shoes (drum brakes) I've always put a smear of grease on the ends of the shoes and the back plate rubbing pads.

I've always used Castrol PH white grease but current advice seems to be to use Copper Slip.

Any thoughts on this ?

Following the advice of members here on the forum I recently bought a tube of Mintex Cera Tec and have tried that on both shoes and pads. My local Autofactors has it for around £4 so don't pay too much for it - there are forty prices online and some quite inflated ones.

I used to use Girling red grease - as it was "rubber safe", just in case it got on the slave cylinder. But in the last 10+ years I've always used copper slip.

I missed that post.

The reason I asked is my tub of PH grease will last me for as long as ever I'll want, and I wondered if I should continue with it or ditch it in favour of something else.

I always used standard Copper Grease and to be honest the two tins I have will probably outlast me, but I just tried the Mintex to see what it was like - it was actually just over £2. Have a look down this thread, that's where I got the idea from:

 additional thoughts  

PH grease is a lubricant  it was std to use white grease on shoe contact points 

coppaslip is a anti seize compound not  really a lubricant

cera tec is more for back of pads as a anti squeal paste
