Black Cat Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 Hi, Having refitted my fuel tank in my 1500 Spitfire I can’t remember what, if anything go’s onto the top of the breather pipe. Should there be a hose which go’s somewhere outside the car. I remember when I built a kit car fitting a non-return valve on to the breather pipe but not sure what goes on the Spitfire.
Pete Lewis Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 just a pipe run down out through the floor /grommet or most 1500 specified a dummy blanking cap with a vented filler cap vented cap has a small hole in its rubber seal pete
Black Cat Posted September 7, 2020 Author Report Posted September 7, 2020 There is a very small hole in the center of the rubber seal on my filler cap so do you think it is vented, and if so can I block off the vent pipe or should I run a pipe out via the boot floor. Will need to cut a hole in the boot floor as just recently replaced it.
Unkel Kunkel Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 For UK spec car it would originally capped by a blind - ended short length of tube( with a vented petrol cap). Inevitably this tube perishes and results in the mysterious petrol smell in the car. Easiest option is to replace with same or a more permanent answer is a brass 8mm micro bore central heating stop end.
Pete Lewis Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 yes vented cap just cap the breather stub as suggested
