Olpie
Hello, I need recommendations for a reliable, experienced restorer for my Mk3 Spitfire which is now in a sorry state and is in need of some TLC. My car is in West London near Ruislip. Replacement of the wiring loom has started but it's been a long, slow job and I've run out of patience (the car also needs to move out from the driveway). Windscreen, soft top, Brakes also need attention. All recommendations will be gratefully accepted. Steve
mcevedy
Just having work done of my GT6 by Tim at Willow Triumph. Extremely communicative and sends good pictures and description of work. Up North but I had mine trailered to him. Mine is just finished - he has fixed all sorts of odd bodges done by other non triumph garages - and all through the pandemic.
GrahamB
I too have used Willow Triumph and was very pleased with the service and standard of work. Just up the road when I lived in Darlington but a long way from Middlesex.
Clive
It partly depends on budget expectations (40K or 4K of work?) and what standard of finish you want. The very best results cost a whole lot more than very good. But for the best, and not as expensive as some, Triumph Autoclassique. Other good ones people have been pleased with include JY classics and Southern Triumph. There are also numerous classic specialists dotted about who are very capable. Dave Saunders in Worcester is good at most Triumph stuff. Alternatively, if you don't want to travel far, contact your local Area Organiser, they may well know of somebody local. Out of interest, is it just those jobs you have mentioned? If so it is more a matter for a mechanic experienced with Triumphs, rather than a restorer. Even a spitfire hood is pretty straightforward. Olpie
Thanks , Clive, for the recommendation for Triumph Autoclassique. JY classics currently have a 3-4 months lead time which is less than ideal. I was quite impressed by Engenuity in Acton whose workshop was heaving with Triumphs. I would be happy to use an experienced mechanic to do the work but would welcome recommendations.
