petegardner_901
Hi anyone familiar with this part? it’s the shaped piece that closes the front of the sill - I bought one to weld in place but the piece itself has a shaped angle piece that I can’t see does anything. see photo! I was thinking I’d just cut it off as I could then weld the end cap in place more easily. am I missing something here?
Colin Lindsay
That piece just sticks out the front.... no idea why. It seems to protect the edge of the seam; there's one on each side and you can just about see it in this photo of my GT6: Here's a slightly better version just visible at the bottom of the pic: I think there should also be a very visible seam round the closing plate; it's not flush welded or grounded off. NonMember
The tab is there for easier assembly on the production line. Remember that all the bits were spot-welded together - that tab is easy to get a spot welder on when it comes together.
Josef
The arrowed part plug/spot welds to the bit of the a-post that projects to the front of the car. The bit with the lip that sits against the bulkhead was brazed to the bulkhead originally (I think that’s the case at least). As Colin says the join between the bulkhead and end cap is/should be visible.
