1969Mk3Spitfire
My new-to-me hardtop is near completion of its restoration. The side window rubbers are in need of attention. Replacements do not appear to be available via the popular sources - anyone know of a source? Alternatively, is there a way to remove a layer of paint (yuk) applied to a rubber seal? Many thanks. Gentle scraping with the likes of a kitchen scourer will remove paint on rubber; harsh enough to scratch the paint off but not damage the rubber underneath, so use it gently. The rubber should be easily replaced once we know the profile; COH Baines will probably have a length of extrusion you can measure then join at the ends. I received these pictures from the guy doing the refurb. How do you suggest that I proceed?
Colin Lindsay
Try to get that seal back into the original shape as closely as possible, get a good flat cross-section, then have a look at the link below - it's of COH Baines' rubber seal profiles. There may be a match currently available. https://coh-baines.co.uk/pages/rubber-profiles https://coh-baines.co.uk/collections/glazing-sections
Clive
Canleys list the side seals https://www.canleyclassics.com/?catalogue=triumph-spitfire-mkiii&diagram=triumph-spitfire-mkiii-hard-top-kit And a pic of the seal on my mk3 hardtop. The bit which fits into the "guide/retainer" measures as 8-9mm wide.

I had pictured side window seals, along the lines of a Herald hardtop:
