  1. I need to do some work using an angle grinder - can anyone recommend a suitable full face protector and what sort of price should I pay?

Also, is there a particular make of 1mm cutting discs I should look for? Presumably it’s best to avoid cheap products?

    thanks

  2. Is there a correct way to drain all of the brake fluid out of the system? I need to remove the brake master cylinder anyway so I thought I may as well drain the fluid as it hasn’t been changed for a while. Is it simply a question of undoing all of the bleed nipples and pressing the brake pedal until no more fluid comes out?

    Thanks

  3. Hi John

That's really my point. The great thing about the Forum is that it's searchable database that keeps growing. FB is instant but a lot of the knowledge that' s posted becomes lost which is a real shame.

  4. Hello

I notice the last post on this was back in 2016 and I wonder if there's any more opinions on how FB is being used  2 years later?

Personally, I really a like the Forum approach and have found the replies really invaluable in keeping my Vitesse going. I'm also constantly amazed by the patience and generosity of  the more experienced owners in sharing their knowledge with the less experienced such as myself. Thank you!

However, I also look at the FB feeds and find this really great as well, but it does seem that there's a lot of knowledge being split between the two platforms and I just wonder if there's a relatively simple way of harnessing this? I'm afraid that don't have an answer other than maybe try and split the FB feed into  three areas - one which just posts pictures/videos, another for parts/cars for sale and third for technical questions so there could be some central way of managing the info? It might need a moderator to organise the posts into the relative sections.

    What do others think?

  5. I'm looking to replace both rear brake cylinders on my Vitesse. According to the Stanpart parts catalogue the part number is 146028  but an online supplier is offering a Borg and Beck version stating that it's the equivalent to the 'Original Part Number 64673476'.  Rimmer and James Paddock has them under part number GWC1208 (3/4" Bore which I'm assuming is correct?).

I've tried the TSSC shop but they don't seem to stock rear brake cylinders.

Can anyone confirm which is the correct part number ?

    Many thanks

  6. Very interesting discussion. My vitesse is currently running on a 2000 mk 2 engine with stormberg 150 CD carbs (and goes really well) but I've just bought a mk 2 vitesse engine (basically to see if I can take it apart rebuild it - never done it before) fitted with CD150s carbs. Are these carbs interchangeable or are they designed for the specific engine? Presumably it comes down to the needles again?

  7. I'm thinking of tidying up the top of the bulkhead on my mk 2 - primarily to rub down and repaint the area around the brake and clutch m/s but to make it easier to spray I may as well remove the heater box as well. Do I need to drain the entire cooling system in order to do this?

    Thanks

  8. Thanks for all the tips

I looked at the club shop but can't find wheel cylinders so maybe Paddocks or Canley's.

Also, do I need to lubricate the rear plate where the shoes rub? If so what type of lubricant do I use and where can I get it from?

    Looks like a busy weekend!

  9. Yes, but fluid if Dot4 should be changed on a regular 2 yearly service as this absorbs moisture from the vent hole in the resevoir.

the drum is hard to remove because the piston is seized out wards and not returned by the shoe springs so the shoes stay appplied to the drum.

the hardest job is getting the horse shoe clips that hold the cyl in the back plate back on

new ones can be trash , old ones are best reused if possible, they should be a nice flat tempered

clip, some aftermarket are badly formed and the overlap dimples do not locate

the clips only fit one way round , the curved clip is fitted against the backplate and fed in from front to rear

the larger flat clip fits over the curved one and is fed in from the rear

the dimples should lock on and stop the pair seperating

this may not make written sense but when youre under you will see how it works

shoes ,,,,,the trailing shoe is fitted with its square hole at the bottom

the leading shoe is more obvious as the handbrake lever determines the shoe orientation

    . Thanks Pete
