back to points had a set of old stock , went for a 5 mile drive different car pulls well lot livelier all round , so definitely a problem with the accuspark .

That is exactly my experience, I won't bother with electronic ignition again. The sort of mileage most of our cars cover now,  points will last a few years anyway.

  2. I changed my 10 year old Continentals on my spitfire last summer. They still had good tread and didn't really want to change them. However the tyre fitter commented they had gone quite hard and weren't supple anymore and probably wouldn't have been good in the wet under severe braking.

Gives a bit of peace of mind knowing your tyres are good, particularly as we were doing a 19 day tour to France.

  3. A friend of mine who served his apprenticeship at a Rover dealership in the late 1960s say's plugs should be chocolate brown.

I would say yours are about right.

The first point is are you going to or through any of the major cities that do have zones (not all do)? If not nothing to bother you.

If you are going through any areas that do have restrictions Zone de Faible Emmission(ZFE)  then, as far as I am aware, at the moment all zones have accepted that a car registered as 'collection' is exempt except under particular circumstances. The circumstances are the days when pollution is very bad and additional restrictions are applied.

Anyone looking at your 'old' car would accept it as 'collection' whereas I have registration papers to show it is. Here just because a car is over 30 years old doesn't automatically class it as 'collection' it has to comply with a few conditions and be registered as such.

In summary, donen't worry about it, load the car and have fun.

On a practical note, if you use '98' E5 not every station has it these days, most but not all.

    This map might help.

Many thanks for the info,  we have been before and it's great fun. We are heading to Bergerac.

I have been running our spitfire on E10 petrol with no issues so far👍

  5. I run a spitfire mk1V with small radiator. Only time it has got really hot was in traffic in France, air temperature about 35 degrees. It didn't boil just got nearly into the red.

I would just make sure the system is clean and all should be well👍

  6. Word of advice regarding powder coated wheels. Remove the power coating on the chamfers where the wheel nut goes. The nuts will work loose, been there done that!!

I didn't loose a wheel but they kept working loose as the wheel nuts will not grip powder coating.

  7. Clutch now bled!!

It took a few hours of frustration. I ended up removing the slave cylinder clamping a bit of wood over the piston to stop it shooting out. Then held the slave cylinder above the master cylinder, diagonally with the nipple uppermost with my wife pumping the pedal the bubbles disappeared.

No tears and no crunching the gears!!🙂
