I fitted a new Facet electric pump, left the old manual pump in place, Took out all the remains of the diaphram and removed the arm, so looks original under the bonnet.
All good so far!

Hi all
Spitfire
I fitted a facet electric fuel pump in the boot of my spitfire. I now get a waft of petrol fumes when I open the boot. All new rubber hoses are fitted and definitely no leaks.
I wrapped the hoses in tape which seemed to reduce the smell a bit.
Are rubber hoses slightly porous? Are there any alternatives?
Maybe I should of mounted the pump on the underside
Thank you

Condersor or if fitted electronic ignition
I have had electronic ignitions fail in both my cars in the last six months, they misfired intermittenly then total failure.😡
-
Pads now seem to have settled in, no smoke! although still a bit smelly.
Will keep an eye on them
thanks for all the advice

Have you tried reverting to points and condensor?
Just had electronic ignitions fail in both my cars, not going to bother with them again.

A Rover/triumph dealership trained mechanic friend of mine says the plugs should be chocolate brown in colour.
I have adjusted my carbs to acheive this, car runs well with good economy. I adjusted the mixture nuts very slightly on every run untill I got the correct colour.
Hope this helps

I had to grind the back plate of the pad slightly, was disappointed as I had bought them from a well known 2000 specialist. Think he sells them as standard replacement parts.
I checked the hub as soon as I got to bottom of hill so was still hot, but span ok . Hopefully not any damage done.
Didn't have chance to bed them in with only a few trips shopping since lock down.
Thanks for the help. Will see how they go for a bit longer.
Who keeps mintex 1144 pads?

Hi all
Triumph 2500
I fitted a set of standard EBC front pads couple of weeks ago. Dissapointingly I had to grind the top and bottom edges to get them to fit in the caliper!!
Yesterday took the car on a run, on the desent of a steep hill I could smell burning. Stopped to inspect and smoke was coming out of wheelarch. Strong smell of brakes too.
Took off wheel, hub span ok nothing seemed wrong!! The hot smell came from both sides
Is this normal?! Surely not!
Anyone else has same problem with these pads? They are standard pads.
Many thanks

Hi Tony
Tried it with a screwdriver, turned it but doesn't spring back.
thanks for the reply👍
-
Thanks for the replies.
It must be the return spring that has broken in the switch. It is all fitted tight in the column (its on a 2000)
I will order a new switch
-
Hi all
Upon starting my engine the key will not spring back, I have to physically turn the key back to stop the
starter turning.
I assume the switch should spring back, not the key barrel.
I just want to make sure iorder the right part!
Thanks in advance, stay safe!

Hi all
I want smarten up my engine bay. Rocker cover and air box could do with painting. My last attempt, the paint has cracked now after 7 years
What has anyone else done? Should I go for powdercoating? Would that last?
Many thanks

I switched my herald 1500 from twin su's to a single stromberg as an experiment.
Car seemed run out of steam fairly quickly, couldn't wait to get SU's back on. Acceleration was poor on a single carb
Correctly set up twin carbs shouldn't use more petrol, and are much better than a single carb.

I wouldn't be without an overdrive particularly for long journeys. I purchased my D-type second hand about 20 years ago . Done over 100000 miles and never had a problem. Was first fitted to my herald estate, now in my spitfire. I sold the herald but not the overdrive.
Hope this helps!

I have fitted a 12.5 inch wiper arm with a 12 inch blade to the nearside wheelbox on my spitfire. This has virtually eliminated the annoying unwiped bit in the middle of the screen. Normal setup on offside.
Hope this helps

2500 tc
Hi all just been out for short trip and engine cut out ignition lights were on
, turned key and restarted and ran as normal. Went down road same thing happened again, restarted ran as normal. Anyone got any ideas? I thought may be coil? Fitted with pertronics electronic ignition. Plenty of petrol could be seen in pump.

I am with Peter James got recovered last month due to fuel pump expiring. AA came first, then called for recovery truck. Excellent service and was home in a couple hours. I understand it doesn't count as a claim.
No need to join AA, RAC ect.
Yet another benefit of running classic Triumphs!!😀
