  1. That is exactly my experience, I won't bother with electronic ignition again. The sort of mileage most of our cars cover now, points will last a few years anyway.
  2. I changed my 10 year old Continentals on my spitfire last summer. They still had good tread and didn't really want to change them. However the tyre fitter commented they had gone quite hard and weren't supple anymore and probably wouldn't have been good in the wet under severe braking. Gives a bit of peace of mind knowing your tyres are good, particularly as we were doing a 19 day tour to France.
  3. A friend of mine who served his apprenticeship at a Rover dealership in the late 1960s say's plugs should be chocolate brown. I would say yours are about right.
  4. I believe Bosch wipers are good. They will be black which is a down side, but useless blades are no good!
  5. I lookout for new old stock on eBay. I gave up on electronic ignition a few years ago
  6. Many thanks for the info, we have been before and it's great fun. We are heading to Bergerac. I have been running our spitfire on E10 petrol with no issues so far👍
  7. Get one from Canleys, you know it will be the right part.
  8. Hi all I am planning a road trip to France soon. What is the position regarding emissions? Are our cars exempt from restrictions from clean air zones? Many thanks
  9. I have put a 1500 into a herald 13/60 estate. I used a 1360 manifold which I believe is the same as your spitfire 1300. All you need is a 1360 front pipe, I think all herald back boxes are the same. Hope this helps
  10. Yes, looks like the remains of the old seal. Screwdriver and hammer job.
  11. I run a spitfire mk1V with small radiator. Only time it has got really hot was in traffic in France, air temperature about 35 degrees. It didn't boil just got nearly into the red. I would just make sure the system is clean and all should be well👍
  12. Hi all I am running a spitfire mk1V in standard form except for 1500 engine on 155x13 tyres. The handbook specifies 145 X 13. Should I be running on 145 X 13's as specified by triumph? Would the steering be lighter on 145's? Many thanks
  13. Had a similar problem on my 2500 saloon. Pertronix electronic ignition was replaced with standard points and condensor, never had a problem since!
  14. I have got some non structural wheel arch repairs to do on my 2500 saloon I was wondering instead of welding to use one of the new 'super' in a tube adhesives now available. I have a wheel arch repair section. Has anyone tried this? Are there any negatives over welding the sections in place? Many thanks in advance
  15. I've removed several hubs with the correct tool. Wind up the pressure with the tool and give the flange a good whack with a punch and lump hammer. Never had a problem, always comes off no problem.
  16. http://www.chapmanandcliff.co.uk/ I had a herald dash done by the above many years ago, superb job
  17. Word of advice regarding powder coated wheels. Remove the power coating on the chamfers where the wheel nut goes. The nuts will work loose, been there done that!! I didn't loose a wheel but they kept working loose as the wheel nuts will not grip powder coating.
  18. Clutch now bled!! It took a few hours of frustration. I ended up removing the slave cylinder clamping a bit of wood over the piston to stop it shooting out. Then held the slave cylinder above the master cylinder, diagonally with the nipple uppermost with my wife pumping the pedal the bubbles disappeared. No tears and no crunching the gears!!🙂
  19. The fluid is pumping through, but bubbles are still appearing in the pipe from the bleed nipple.
  20. Gaz shocks seem reasonably priced and good quality. I have had some fitted to my saloon for over 15 years with no leaks or issues
  21. Hi all Just rebuilt my clutch master cylinder and replaced the slave cylinder. Tried all morning to bleed, it no joy!☹️ I have the bleed nipple on the top. Any tips or ideas? I've done it before and knew it was going to be a pain, but not this bad!! Many thanks
  22. The door could be distorted, particularly if it's had a new skin.
  23. It's included in my club insurance policy with Peter James. Not sure of any limits on costs.
