  5. Fitted a servo to my MK1 Vitesse some years ago just to reduce the pedal force. Fitted it over the master cylinders using existing holes and brakets made from stainless strip. As said make sure the braking system is fine as servo is not to cover faults, I also fitted goodridge hoses at the same time. There is no need to drill the inlet manifold, get some 16mm banjo fittings with take offs to match the smith valve and servo hoses. Then make a banjo bolt from a 5/8 unf bolt and remove the smith valve take of point and use that. The bolt size assumes that your tapping in the manifold is the same as mine so please check. The above as stated has worked on my car for some years, could always lock the brakes by pushing hard enough but prefer the lighter pedal. As an aside have always used silicone brake fluid which some members seem to dislike. Regards Paul

  7. Agree with all the above, rebuilt one bonnet a few years ago currently doing another. Faults with wing Insufficient curve on back edge, as stated above, need to modify rear at top so it steps out. Needs to be extended where it meets the headlight panel by the side light. If you do not do this the front of the bonnet will not match the front valence. Curve around headlight not curved enough, take an angle grinder to it and add a fillet of metal. Also be careful that the front panel is not pulled in so that it touches the radiator, very little clearance at the best of times. The above is what l found with the two pairs of wings from different suppliers. Regards Paul
  8. Good Morning. Early Triumph Dolomite 1850 used the same three rail box and clutch including the release arm as the GT6 and 2L Vitesse, you need to change the bell housing. My Vitesse has a three rail gearbox, reverse up by first with a J type overdrive, but has the fine input shaft from a single rail gearbox. This gearbox came with loads of other bits bought at a show some years ago. The box works very well the only trouble was the overdrive slipped on moving off, had it refurbished and the pressure correctly set for a 2L Vitesse, now the overdrive engages very smoothly. Regards Paul
  9. Been interesting reading the comments, will get a set of normal tyres, not winter, in the new year. Regards Paul
  10. No Mk1 no rotaflex worries, only had a them on a 1500FWD I used to own.
  11. It is possible, did it on my Viteese some time back. Remember jacking up the engine to give more room, big lump of wood to protect sump. Be careful not to strain water and exhaust connections etc and you do not have to lift it far. Regards Paul
  12. The time has come to get a new set of tyres for my MK1 Vitesse. I was wondering if winter tyres where a better option for all year use as they have a softer compound with more natural rubber. My brakes are fine and I can lock the wheels if I push hard enough. My thought being that they have greater friction with the road surface and therefore should improve stopping distance. Or am I looking at this completely wrong, the Vitesse is driven all year out in it yesterday roof down about five degrees. Regards Paul
  13. When I changed the rear dampers on my Vitesse some on offer had to long a compressed length although the extended length was correct. When pointed out to the supplier that his did not allow any spring travel the only reply was that the part was correct, fitted a pair from a different place. Regards Paul
  14. I have used both Vitesse and 2000 exhaust manifolds on my MK1 Vitesse 2L but am thinking of changing to stainless steel. I have had several crack both front and rear leg and one had cracks on the engine side,I think they are just getting to old and fatigued. Regards Paul
  15. Decided to change antifreeze in Vitesse over weekend, this is what happened to the cap " a quality aftermarket product". Got a replacement from a local motor factors for £2.98 must look for a new old stock item at next show I go to. Any idea how old antifreeze should be disposed of as just pouring it away seems illegal. Regards Paul
  16. Be specific when ordering as Saloon and Convertable are different also year of convertable. I drive a 68 MK1 Vitesse con. belt mounting points on rear wheel arch, slot in rear quarter panel, and through transmission tunnel to tappings on chassis. Earlier MK1, long term project, I have mountings at front top corner of hood well and central fixing to top of tunnel, not to chassis and not sure I would trust them. The seatbelts in the car I drive are long enough as I have the seat right back so check length carefully, the belts are inertia reel but needed careful fitting to fit behind quarter panel and avoid hood frame. Seat belts are for you and your families safety so fit carefully and do not forget the rear seat passengers. Had a picture of my Vitesse, on old forum, after some idiot turned right while coming towards me. Regards Paul
  17. Have had to replace several of these because of cracks in recent years. My stock now very low, thinking of changing to stainless steel any one care to comment on the available items from the various suppliers. Just want to fit and forget, I have a standard stainless exhaust system. Many thanks. Paul
  18. Had an MOT on Vitesse last Friday, past with two advisories examiner reckoned to much slack in front wheel bearings. He has a Spitfire and an MG so should know classic cars. I have since checked them and see no problem, I have owned, repaired and serviced the car since 1995. So how much is to much or just a matter of opinion.
