    Fumes

On my Vitesse oil leak was from speedo drive, J type overdrive, easily cured with new seal. Regards Paul
  2. Have always used a compressor like the club sells, made one years ago, also stainless steel top caps are available. Paul

    Hot coil

Been driving my Vitesse CV for years with the coil bolted to the block, never been a problem. Not even in the unseasonable weather we are having, shouldn't it be raining in an English summer?. Regards Paul
  4. Had a similar problem with space fitting a fan on the back of the radiator in my Vitesse I just removed part of the fan housing. Although I suspect this would have void any warranty. Regards Paul
  5. Not sure what you are saying but Dot 5 is silicone Dot 5.1 is not, they should not be mixed. I use Dot 5 in my Vitesse and have done for years. Regards Paul
  6. While under my MK1 Vitesse yesterday noticed that the top front rubber diff bushes had quite deep cracks in them. To change them requires removing part of the exhaust and detaching the diff. from the suspension and drive train. This is not a five minute job so was thinking of using polybushes for the diff, is it worth the extra cost and will it result in more noise?. The other thing to consider is the poor quality of a lot of rubber based components these days, interested in others experience. I had the diff. out some years ago and reassembled with a lot of copperslip so do not expect rear mounting bolts to be rusted in the rear bushes. Regards Paul
  7. Never think that as a component is new it isn't faulty. Regards Paul
  8. If you mean the stud which holds the rocker cover why not just reseal the thread. Regards Paul
  9. Dolomite 1850Three rail clutch is the same as the Vitesse 2L, the single rail just used a different friction disc. From memory. Regards Paul
  10. An early Dolomite 1850 box is 3 rail and will fit a 2L Vitesse and has the J type overdrive. The bell housing is different. Regards Paul
  11. Never seen it, but as both threaded holes in the slave cylinder are the same then would assume a short pipe with a standard male union to fit the master and a female one to take the bleed nipple would work. Have a MK1 Vitesse and on the rare occasions I have needed to work on the clutch hydraulics just removed the tunnel cover. Would never bother, as just adding something that could go wrong, but to each their own. Regards Paul
  12. I agree with Richard as I have a servo fitted to my MK1 Vitesse but made sure brakes were as good as can be before I installed it. Fitted it just to reduce the pedal force needed, could lock the wheels before fitting but am a lot happier with the servo. Regards Paul
  13. Do not understand this, if I remove the oil filler cap on my MK1 2L Vitesse it runs very badly if at all. Had same symptoms with a holed breather pipe and when the top came of the smiths emission valve. Regards Paul
  14. First check distributer is not 180 degree's out, but do the valve clearance and static ignition timing. Best of luck Paul
  15. Dolomite 1850 with 3 rail gearbox used same clutch as 2L Vitesse. My 2L Mk1 Vitesse has a 3 rail j type overdrive gearbox, reverse up by first, with the later fine input shaft so uses the clutch from the later Dolomite 1850 single rail gearbox. Triumph never made this type of gearbox, but some rebuilds have, so the only way to be sure is to look. The only difference is the friction plate. Regards Paul
  16. Contact supplier as item not fit for purpose, if you do any work on the manifold supplier might not rectify it. Regards Paul
  17. Just remember ours our normal contacts closed some are normal contacts open. Switch replaced and all sorted, another nice day here in Norfolk to be driving a soft top. Regards Paul
  18. Have wing mirrors on my Vitesse, next to useless, I use a mirror clamped to the quarter light frame. Regards Paul
  19. Thanks to one and all, seems like a lot of options, found a mention of a switch from 3 series BMW and some Volvo's being fitted to Tr6. Have a brake pedal assembly from my long term project which I can take with me to a motor factors tomorrow, one of the benefits of being retired. Regards Paul
  20. Checked the lights today found brake lights not working, has any one found a modern replacement for the so called Lucas switch. Plunger on existing switch sticking can not say that I'm impressed with the quality it was changed for the same reason no long ago. Car is a MK1 2L Vitesse so switch worked by brake pedal not hydraulics. Regards Paul
  21. Welcome to the club of questionable parts. Regards Paul
  22. Always thought that the use of oil was recommended because it flowed in the trunnion while in use while grease will not. Assume Triumph did research into this or was he recommending some modern semi liquid grease. I use EP90 GL4. Regards Paul
  23. Agree a good tool is a good tool a poor one is an accident waiting to happen. Keep them clean and sharp, a blunt tool is more off a hazard than a sharp one. Regards Paul
  24. A dab of grease around the bleed nipple when bleeding will stop air being drawn up the threads. Regards Paul
  25. If you need to drill the bolts to get them out left hand drills are available, just need an electric drill which can be set to rotate anticlockwise. Heat and vibration from drilling will often losen the remains of the bolt. Regards Paul
