  1. When I replaced the bezels on my Speedo and rev. counter I used a large jubilee clip to support them whilst leveraging up the tabs. Bought closed cell black neoprene cord of eBay to replace the rubber seals, available in many diameters and used super glue to stick the ends together. Regards Paul.
  2. Early in the production run of the 2L Vitesse a different seat was used for the convertible to increase the legroom. Regards Paul.
  3. The actuating arm on the fuel pump for early Mk1 2L is different from the later ones which is the same as Mk2 2L. Easy enough to change the arm. Regards Paul.
  4. Revington TR list them at £2.18 and immediately available. Regards Paul. https://www.revingtontr.com/product/608703/name/spring-clip
  5. Only trouble I had was a balance weight on the front of the propshaft catching the tunnel with someone in front passenger seat, solved it by turning chassis plate over to drop rear of gearbox/overdrive. Rear mount to chassis plate bolts are awkward to get to when everything installed, I cut a slot for a screwdriver in the nut end to let me rotate the bolt while holding the nut still. Regards Paul
  6. As said above I just replaced the rubber blade found the complete blades I purchased complete rubbish, blade edge not finished so gave worse wipe than old ones. Replacement rubbers bought from Halfords, only minor alterations needed. Regards Paul.
  7. Thanks for the replies, as said no changes, not even petrol, since runs prior to holiday, not had a chance to check anything yet. Have a complete distributor to exchange with existing one to bypass electronic ignition and a spare coil so this might be my first port of call rather than strip the carburettors. Might take of rocker gear to see how well valve bounce using a plastic hammer, decisions decisions. Many thanks Paul.
  8. Have lumination electronic ignition, for a good number of years and distributor doctor rotor arm, tappet noise seemed about right on tick over. Regards Paul.
  9. Car, Vitesse 2L Mk1, ran fine before I went on holiday for two weeks, took it out yesterday after a few miles started misfiring and engine cutting and back firing didn't think I was going to get home. No work done on car since previous run, less than a thousand miles since having the head converted to unleaded, seat inserts, bronze valve guides, as recommended, etc, distributor hasn't moved and no petrol bought since previous run. So sticking valve, ignition component just starting to fail, something blocking fuel to carbs who knows but I think I will start by checking cards are clean unless someone has a better idea. Joys of classic motoring. Regards Paul.
  10. As above don't think available new, got one from Mick Dolphin years ago, just a thought would a couple of suitable sized Terry clips be an alternative. Regards Paul.
  11. Makes my method of making a concrete former, cast in the air box, when I made my Stainless Steel air box seem very old fashioned. Regards Paul.
  12. Not fitted to Mk1 2L as said, but when I made a stainless-steel air box I also fitted stainless hoses. Wether it made any difference??. Regards Paul.
  13. Cleanliness is essential for a good job, using panel wipe and a tac cloth. Regards Paul.
  14. I use one of these in my Vitesse. https://revotec.com/product-category/electronic-fan-controllers/ Regards Paul
  15. I have a welding magnifier lens also known as a cheater lens in my welding mask, very useful as long as you remember to take your glasses off. Regards Paul.
  16. Had a problem in my Vitesse with a balance weight on front of prop shaft clipping the tunnel, fitting the rear gearbox mount upside down cured it. Problem started when I fitted a J type overdrive gearbox. Regards Paul.
  17. Have a sleeved cluster in my Vitesse gearbox, parts supplied by Mike Papworth number in courier, who was also very helpful with advice. Had two teeth break off third gear on the cluster which then wreck third gear on the main shaft. Regards Paul.
  18. Used to use NGK in my Mk1 2L Vitesse but switched to the Bosch three electrode ones as mentioned on here, the ones I bought do have an R suffix which hasn't caused a problem. Regards Paul.
  19. Have some BMW been written off by insurance companies after steering wheel was stolen, or is that just a Daily Mail story. Regards Paul.
  20. Have a selection of 18volt Makita tools, first one was bought with battery's and charger subsequent ones bought without, the ½in. impact driver is easily the one I use most. Also found the DeWalt ½in. to ¼hex very useful for screws. Regards Paul.
  21. Saw this on holiday, did I need it no did I want it yes. Extending ½in extending extension, will work as a wobbly or rigid extension. Regards Paul.
  22. Looks good, might be an idea to pinch. Regards Paul?
  23. I have a 3hp twin cylinder direct drive with a 100litre tank, it struggles with some tools and don't think I could use it with HVLP. The 13amp fuse blows sometimes on startup in cold weather and I should definitely have got one with a bigger tank, it all comes down to cost and space and the larger compressors might want three phase. As to welders I have a 150amp Butters gas mig which runs on a standard 13amp socket and I have found it more than adequate for any of the welding on my Vitesse, understand than some cheaper welders struggle at lower settings. Get yourself a very good quality reactive welding helmet and practice practice practice, also some very informative tube video's. All the best for your restoration. Paul.
  24. All tyres are marked with a date, when buying I always insist they are less than a year old, you don't know how they have been stored. Regards Paul.
