  1. I opened my fillr cap and it looks like the seal isn't sitting central in the filler neck so I might try to bend it in to try to centralise it but I have fear of it breaking so I may buy another spare just in case it does snap
  2. Naa I get no click what so ever so my plan is to do the same and replace any wiring that has seen better days and hopefully the solenoid and other stuff is all okay the previous owner said it was working but then stopped but he rarely used the car I'm hoping it's just a faulty connection somewhere
  3. Haha yeah it's only when I've filled the tank I suppose I will have to stick to driving miss daisy untill I can solve the issue I'll take another look at the seal in the morning and see if I can see wether it's fitted correctly and seated properly
  4. Sorry its a mk3 gt6 with a switch on the gear knob As for forth it almost feels like there's something stopping the stick from pulling all the way back into fourth whereas the other gears seem to have more travel into gear
  5. It is this type fuel cap I can't find a picture of the inside but I replaced the rubber seal inside and I'm assuming it isn't making seal as there isn't a strong smell of petrol inside the car and only seems to leak outside from the cap
  6. I have noticed that there has been petrol leaking out of the petrol cap and running down the rear wing every time I have been cornering hard so I replaced the rubber cap in the actual petrol cap and this doesn't seem to have solved the issue although it has made it difficult to close the cap now, has anyone else experienced this? Could the spring part in the cap be damaged or bent in any way causing it to not seal? Should I source a replacement cap? Any help will be appreciated thanks
  7. So my car jumps out of 4th gear every now and then and was wondering if anyone had any ideas what may cause this? It only ever happens in 4th and not every time but I'm planning on pulling the transmission tunnel soon anyways to see if I can get my overdrive to work and also check my reverselight switch so I will be having a look to see if there is anything obvious that's causing it to jump out but any suggestions of what to check would be much appreciated thanks
  8. It's done it the whole time I've owned it but I think it's defiantly missing a tooth by the way the winder skips round I think I'll have to disassemble both doors and check the regulators against each other then I should be able to check alignment of everything when I put it back together
  9. My driver side window feels as though it's missing a tooth as it skips when winding down and gets really tight after half way I have a spare door from a spitfire with a working regulator so my question is are they interchangeable or is there a way I can transplant the working winder mechanism into my gt6 regulator?
  10. Asked for more photos and he send some today so here they are for anyone interested. I think I will be attempting this come restoration time
  11. So I was browsing eBay and come across this mk3 gt6 for sale that has been converted to run no bumpers and has had the overrides removed and personally I think it looks great and I'm dying to know how it's been done. Has anybody seen the car in person? Is this a members car? Or has anyone else managed to remove the bumpers and overrides and had a similar result Link to the post on eBay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302608394081 And I'll attach a couple of pictures in case it's removed from ebay
  12. Fitted new jets bae needles and cleaned the carbs out set the timing to 8btdc and the car runs spot on now pulls all the way through the revs a little bit of overrun every now and then but that's probably carbon build-up on the head and hopefully will get better with use Thanks for all the advice to everyone who helped out hopefully the weather perks up so I can enjoy the car some more
  13. So will 20w50 work fine or would this be too thick?
  14. Dashpots did have oil in but I will be replacing with proper dashpot oil when I replace the needles
  15. I assumed that they were the big spring above the slide? I can see any identifying colours on either but have been recommended green springs with bae needles
  16. Any idea if my carbs are ball bearing suction chamber type or not? Don't know wether to order auc1170 or jzx1088 springs to go with bae needles
  17. Are you sure I was under the impression hs6 carbs had an external fuel bowl I thought my carbs were hif of some sort?
  18. I have checked the jets using a 2.5mm drill shank measuring 0.097' and both had similar play but can't see any grooves on the top of the jets but I haven't taken them out just looking in from the top I think needles are going to be a must by the sounds of things I assume springs will be standard too would these need replacing to go with the richer needle?
  19. I've had a look at the springs and can't see any identifying colours needles are bdb with modifications I'll upload a picture I'm going to try stripping and cleaning the carbs this weekend any advice as to what height the jets should sit? The jets seem to be the same size 2.5mm drill has about the same play in both sides If a good clean doesn't work I think I'll order some bae needles and hope for the best
  20. Okay so I've pulled the tops off and measured the depth of the jets back carb is sitting .06' below flush and front is .03' below flush both running bbs needles the look to be ground down one side how do i identify the springs? I don't have a way of measuring the jets without stripping the full carb but one jet definatly looks newer than the other
  21. Clive I completely forgot about that other post thanks for reminding me! 1 And 5 are overflow pipe I think 2 is fuel in and 4 is fuel to 2nd carb I'll pull the tops off again and see if I can find the numbers on the needles and have another look at that jet to see if they are the same size I'll let you know how I get on might be tonight but it might have to wait for some daylight tomorro after work
  22. The pipe is fuel from one carb to the other and the engine is mg51303ebw feel like we're making progress now we have identified the carbs haha
  23. Pulled the tops off the carbs and took some photos they seem quite dirty to me so will get some carb cleaner and give them a blast off any ideas if these needles are suitable or if the problem could be from elsewhere
  24. It has 2 inline fuel filters one before the pump and one after, I replaced the one before thinking it could be restricted (one after looked okay) but no change. I'll pull the tops off the carbs tonight and look at the needles and clean out what I can then the next step would be strip and rebuild the carbs any idea what needles I should have or would I be able to adjust my needles to suit if they are the issue?
  25. It has k&n filters and no tags the only markings I can find is pcd1 on one carb and mcd1 on the other I will have a look for a strip down guide and make a crack at getting the needles out tomorro after work
