  1. These are the Sony home cinema speakers I’ve bought on eBay (£20/pair) that will go at the front somehow (not sure I’ve @Josefcraft skill). Kitchen roll in pic to show size. They are over a kilo each so have decent cones in. Awaiting the bookshelf speakers I’ve bought to go behind the seats…
  2. Will post pics of what I’ve bought from ebay. I’m hoping I’m on to something buying 2nd hand home cinema surround sound speakers. Very cheap and should sound good.
  3. Just purchased some bookshelf speakers off Ebay to go behind the seat. Hopefully, their casing will give reasonable sound vs other options. Will knock up front speaker mounts as we @Josef
  4. Thanks everyone. Behind the seats sounds the most practical but with the genius addition of @Josefstyle front speakers. Been trying to avoid cutting the rear panel, door cards, so it all remains removable. Alan
  5. Hi All, It’s time to fit a stereo. I’m interested to know where others have placed speakers and what type I.e. Pod type or sunk in type. I can’t for the life of me remember what I did 30 years ago (first Spitfire). @JosefI’m guessing you’ve sorted your car out with sound? Thanks Alan
  6. Drove mine for 30 miles today, roof down, hat and gloves. Warm. Fab Fun in an old school ‘hang on tight’ way (and that’s from someone who’s owned a Boxster, Lotus, Z4). Heater should be fixable. That said, with the blower on mine only registered 1/4 temp today (cold day) despite being driven hard (aside from a 1 minute breakdown…dodgy coil spade connector).
  7. Sounds just like my experience of post rebuild early runs! Nervous. Roof off entirely different and brilliant as the noise is just the road and exhaust as you cane it. Heaters are usually great. Perhaps yours needs a clean out?
  8. So what’s it like driving a Spit again after all these years? I’ve found it terrific fun with the roof down; not so sure about using it with the roof up. Perhaps a 50 something vs 20 something thing…
  9. Had this problem @Pettifordo. One side was cured by lightly filing the edges of the circlip to ensure it didn’t move (I should have kept the old clips…very slightly thinner). The other side turned out to require a shaft swap as it had obviously taken a knock.
  10. It was just one so I swapped it out.
  11. Sorted. Changed the disc. It was just enough out of true to grab the pad. thanks all.
  12. All in place @Pete Lewis I had a wheel bearing fail shortly after resto and suspect this may have damaged the disc. They are cheap so will replace and see what happens. It’s an annoyance rather than dangerous.
  13. Rimmers’ website doesn’t suggest there are two sizes on offer for type 14. My instinct is to change the disc as it’s slightly out of true
  14. They look correct for a 1500 according to pic from Rimmers.
  15. Ah! These are type 14 on a Spit. Will peruse Rimmers! thanks
  16. Hi @JohnD They are solid with a retaining pin.
  17. Hi All, yet another weirdness. As the disc spins it’s slightly catching the pads at one point and causes the retaining pins to click (you can see them move in the video). The disc appears very slightly out of true and, I suspect, is bad (albeit new!). Thoughts? thanks 69123370920__E880960A-B110-413E-ADD6-08AA73257481.MOV
  18. I’ve finally sorted the back end transmission gremlins! Aside from the bolt into bearing that caused diff issues (in relevant topic area) I’ve been through 3 UJs on one side. The cause? A very slightly bent driveshaft yoke. Steve from Spitfire spares dropped me off a replacement driveshaft, now fitted, silence!!! The old one may have been clouted at some point. Hurrah.
  19. Hi All, if anyone needs a refreshed wooden dash then I highly recommend the ones that are regularly for sale on GumTree by a chap from Stonehouse. Prices are low (mine cost £85) and, based on mine, quality is great! Alan
  20. I’ve got a set of ramps and push these under the sills when the car is on stands (which are higher). Hate working underneath it. One day, I’ll afford a lift. Perhaps…
  21. Finally drove it this morning. Transformational lowering of differential noise! Annoyingly, I can still hear a clicking UJ. One yoke is almost impossible to get the cap into (no trapped needles) and, I suspect, out of kilter. Will swap in another driveshaft. Thanks for all your help everyone. A great outcome.
  22. That looks familiar @Colin LindsayHope you’ve got a lift…horrible place to work whilst on axle stands. I’ve got sciatica for my efforts.
  23. Given they’d replaced the rear wings and just left 2 inch gaps where the rear inner wings / arches should have been I don’t thing they were experts…
