  1. Oil pressure relief spring, mine was very soft and may have been part of my problem. On a new 'tight' engine the oil needs good pressure the lubricate everything.
  2. Aidan, do not forget to check or replace the beating heart of your engine...the oil pump! I had an 'experience' with my recently reconditioned engine because I didn't replace mine. I thought as the oil light never came on and the engine had done only a few thousand miles since the PO had totally rebuilt the car it was fine. Wrong the engine ran a mains in 500 miles! I don't know where my machine shop bought the pump but I think it was Moss. This pump has nearly 90psi at start up! Iain
  3. I think they specialise in honing but as its an American company in a big way with many products! Iain
  4. Johny, if yer gonna 'ave one 'ave a big one! Sunnen are quite a good machine but not for the DIY! Iain
  5. Aiden, simply put honing puts a cross hatch pattern on the bore to aid lubrication of the rings to bore and a rebore removes metal from the bore to remove scoring etc. With honing you can use your original pistons with perhaps just a ring set change. A rebore requires new pistons/rings as the bore diameter is increased. Honing is performed when the bores are OK for size but you always hone after a rebore. A competent engine shop will advise the best course of action. Forum guru's correct me if I'm wrong! Iain
  6. Mark, the tomato thing is weird I never knew about my intolerance until I started eating them every day. All symptoms gone after less than a week🎉🎊. Doctor said I'm not allergic as I don't have the full symptoms only intolerant but even so the effects were quite nasty....and worrying! My wife has an egg and chicken allergy, she's never eaten cake! Now her allergy is a real problem when going out to eat, chicken stock is in most jus (posh gravy) and mayonnaise in pre-made sandwiches. We always ask before ordering. I am trying a small banana every day at lunchtime and wait for any side effects🤪. Iain
  7. Peter, thanks for suggesting using a needle valve! Laying in bed this morning pondering "life the universe and everything" which included the mass of the valve on the adaptor, I think I'll look at fixing the valve on say the bulkhead or side panel. The installation would then be new flexi hose (1/8npt male to 1/8npt female) from the engine adaptor to the valve and the standard external feeder hose from the valve to the head. That way there will be very little mass on the engine adaptor and the flexi hose will absorb any vibration. This solution has the added advantage of decluttering the area around the adaptor/fuel pump/dipstick/distributor.....! As to why I seemingly have no or at most very little oil flow to the rockers is beyond be. The rear cam journal is 3 thou diameter larger than the cam and is round not oval, oil ways allegedly clear etc.....I think the engine has it in for me!!! However I have the Forum as a secret weapon!! Iain
  8. Dave, my original squeaky rattly rockers were knackered so I changed for what I thought was a bushed rocker assy. Found it wasn't bushed but on investigation discovered a distinct lack of oil to the rockers. All sorts of issues sorted and ended up with a new oil pump and a bushed rocker set from Moss which I had to have reamed to suit the new shaft with a 0.5-1 thou clearance (1-2 thou on diameter). This is by far the best solution but didn't solve the oil problem so I fitted an external oil feeder. This valve is my solution to adjust and control the amount of oil to the rockers and not starve the mains. The valve and fittings were about £40 but ended up nearer £60 with p&p. It is perhaps over engineered but totally adjustable! The rockers, shaft, springs, reaming and assembly came to around £350. Fitting an oil pressure gauge is in my opinion a must! Hope this helps, if you need any part numbers etc let me know. Iain
  9. Because there was no drip drip at all. Seemingly dry as a bone. The fact that such a small 1/4 turn works does reinforce what people say that the hole must be very small! Iain
  10. John, yes the valve controls the external oil flow to the rockers. It certainly works and I doubt I'll get up to 10,000 psi! It looks very well made with shake proof handle and the threads have excellent form. I bought it from MGA Controls and the s/steel fittings from Flowfit. I bought the male/female 1/4 npt valve version (they don't have a 1/8npt variant) then 1/8 npt adaptors. The hole in the valve is approx 3mm so I started with it half closed (or is it half open?). This didn't seem to make any difference to the flow so I gradually closed the valve until it was only 1/4 turn open. I need to do more tests with the engine oil at normal temperature but it does what it says on the box. I still need to possibly tweak the installation at the moment I have the oil pressure gauge coming off first (closest to the block) then the valve and the warning light at the end. As I said is Wellseal OK for the joints? I do have some Loctite threadlock which may be better? Colin, my father unfortunately spent some time in a urology ward, the smell still lingers in my nostrils! I went to see him in hospital and was surprised to see a window pane boarded up. I asked him what happened and he said the guy next to him was in extreme pain and pressing his buzzer and calling for a nurse for over an hour. He got so angry he threw something at the window and smashed it. Dad said the guy got told off......but it got their attention! This was Southend on Sea hospital 10 years ago, I don't know what their TripAdvisor rating is! Iain
  11. Iain, almost all symptoms disappeared as soon as I stopped eating the bloody things! A friend of mine who is paranoid about healthy food said they are the devil's food, I never believed him until now. I started eating them every day about a year ago and never thought my symptoms which started in February were related! Not sure if my radiologist needs new glasses or was maximising the financial return on his scanner as his initial scan evaluation said possible opacity over left lung, after a further CT scan with contrast he found nothing but a hole in my wallet! Anyway I now have a nice dribble out of the rockers😁 Iain
  12. Pete, although it only weighs 0.4kg I am conscious of the potential to cause problems. I will try and see if I can fit it in another configuration. It was a bit cold damp and nasty out there today🥶 Iain
  13. Sorry for the delay in posting had a bit of a health scare, after two scans and blood tests it turns out I'm intolerant to tomatoes! The symptoms, constant chest pain similar to indigestion, elevated BP and bit of a chest wheeze could have indicated something more ominous...at 65 my body now doesn't like eating toms everyday. There was I trying to get my 5 or is it 10 a day healthy food intake and it all went pear shaped! Anyway I took the plunge and bought the needle valve and adaptors and fitted them today. The valve handle has 7 full turns I ended up with only 1/4 turn from shut off to reduce the flow to a constant drip. Early days as it is a bit nippy today and the water was only at 70C but it has reduced the flow and more importantly I can adjust it. This 'fix' does work and will obviously make more oil available to other whirly bits at the front of the engine. The joints are fine but to make sure everything stays where it should is Wellseal ok to put on the threads? Iain VID_20201207_122650.mp4
  14. Lance, I have pertronix ignition, flamethrower coil with Bosch WR78 plugs that have 0.9mm (35.4 thou) preset gap and although early days seem to work fine. Iain

    No hot air

I did this on my Vitesse and it worked! Not sure if it was by luck or design?!? Iain
  16. That's why I purchased from Greenspark Plug, they have a good reputation and the prices are not cheap but competitive. The plugs arrived in what looked like the correct packaging, I know easily faked, and the quality and finish, harder to fake, what is expected from Bosch. Magnecor KV8 lead set (pt no 6007) arrived from Aldon, I'll fit and hopefully forget! Iain
  17. Iain, haven't taken the plunge yet. I have 45psi at tickover when hot, water temp 100C, and at 3000rpm 80psi! Looks pretty good to me. Debating whether a restrictor is needed given those oil pressures? However are the valves you show rated for over 100C? Most of this type I have viewed have a max of 95C. Iain
  18. Just changed my less than 1000 mile old NGK's for above and what an instant difference! Seems to pull better and tickover smoother. I think someone on the forum recommended them and first impression is excellent. They are 4 prong silver tip non resistance type so suited to our cars. I bought them from Greenspark for about £24 with p&p. Iain
  19. I think a lack of oil pressure may have contributed to the temperature. Now that's been fixed I'll keep with this fan for now and test the rad to see if I have any cold spots. Iain
  20. Mmm, I think the needle valve I found is better suited as the npt connections are in the body. Iain
  21. Shrouds are commonly used on modern cars to funnel airflow through the rad and do work. I have yet to try fitting the uprated Spal, it looks extremely tight!! Iain
  22. Iain, this is a definition I found, seems to indicate a needle valve does control flow not just TSO? "Needle valves, sometimes referred to as plunger valves, are regulating valves and enable engineers to finely control and regulate water flow and pressure." What alternatives would you recommend? Iain
  23. A needle valve is used to vary flow a ball valve is normally for on/off applications? The company's tech support advised a needle valve. Iain
  24. This is the sensor https://www.t7design.co.uk/1-4-npt-thermal-sensor-adaptor-kit-0465-0465.html?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=googleshopping&gclid=Cj0KCQiA48j9BRC-ARIsAMQu3WQk38KNJUnsas0Y71GCpsKcpRQCLjlZ18Cvk1fgY0p66qqzzqUDGvgaAsChEALw_wcB
